That was probably true. Because of rising costs, due in part to government mandates, regulations, taxes and fees, restaurants are cutting back on employees. If you eat out, you might notice that busboys are disappearing and the dirty dishes that they once carried away are now being handled by the waiter or waitress who brings you your food. And it's only going to get worse.

Little Black Sambo by Helen Bannerman (London: Grant Richards, 1899) actually takes place in India. But never mind. It's still highly politically incorrect. I was lucky to be one of the last kids to have become familiar with the original story, before it was dumbed down and repackaged as "Little Brave Sambo" and later vanished from children's literature altogether.

The Sambo's in Los Angeles--I believe it was at around Vermont Avenue and Sixth Street--had some of the best customer service of any restaurant. If you ordered coffee, you would be unable to finish your cup before a waitress came bearing down on you to refill it.

Although the Sambo's chain disappeared in the 1980's, the original restaurant in Santa Barbara, Calif. is still in business.

You are absolutely correct, it was South India. Blacks fought the dark skin of the child as being racist but I was wrong, it as India.

To be accurate, The picture of SAMBO at the SAMBO’s restaurants was not ‘black’.

The LITTLE BLACK SAMBO in the children’s tale was depicted as ‘black’ by the illustrators... back in 1899.

restaurants know how many they can accommodate...even if you see empty tables, it doesn't mean they have enough staff to wait on them and cook for them...

its all about the $$$$$$$
