The story that doesn’t make the eneMedia is that allowing guns in public likely deters many hundreds of such attacks.
The comments section really has some entertainment value, such as this gem:

This is true. We have had bad shootings here in Florida, but most of them have been good (that is, an armed citizen taking out an armed evil doer).
The bizarre thing is that in many states - such as Illinois, where some totally unlicensed thugs with records were caught in Chicago with a serious hand weapon and a bunch of drugs and the police were only allowed to cite them for a misdemeanor - thugs are allowed to carry unlicensed, illegal weapons but good citizens...not.
