If I understand the situation correctly, the President wants to talk to Mueller against the advice of his legal team. So the legal team is trying to work out the safest possible way for Mueller to interview the President. I think the President is making a huge mistake in opening himself up to a possible interview. His natural inclination is that he can talk to and negotiate with anyone, but this is a whole other kettle of fish from what Trump is used to in his business dealings.

Maybe when he first got into office he was overly trusting of the powers that be. But he's a fast learner and the bloom is definitely off the rose.
