Tonight, the Ohio special election widely seen as a referendum on President Donald Trump reaches its conclusion.
Republican Troy Balderson is running with Trumps endorsement in a district the president won by 11 points in 2016. Hes running for a seat that has been held by a Republican since 1983, but his Democratic opponent, Danny OConnor, is running surprisingly close to him. Hes a moderate Republican who supports a pathway to citizenship for so-called Dreamers and wants any Obamacare replacement to include pre-existing conditions regulations.
OConnor has positioned himself as a moderate Democrat, pledging that if elected he would not vote for Nancy Pelosi as speaker of the House. Recent polling has the race in a statistical tie.
If the OConnor wins, or if Balderson wins narrowly, the media narrative will be that Trump is no king-maker and he cant save the Republican Party from an oncoming blue wave in November.

Or you can go to the Ohio Sec of State site which will have updates every 3 minutes. The first count was absentee votes, which the Dems always salt by working the nursing homes and some recently departed voters. But the GOP usually has a higher Election Day turnout.
Why can’t people understand this is early voting and always favors dems... Dem won early vote by 26% but was expecting to win by 30%
Sorry, I did not know that. I wasn’t freaking out about the numbers. My only first impression was “Wow, this must be from a really Dem area of Columbus or something”.
Keep in mind that the Kasick wing of the Republican Party would rather lose elections than to cede power to Trump and the Deplorables.
What re-election? This is a special election being held today to fill a vacant seat. Neither candidate is an incumbent.
You are correct about Kasich, however - over the weekend he sounded excited about the prospect of losing this race to the Democrats so it would look bad for President Trump and he was saying that Trump visiting the district for the campaign rally was depressing Republican turnout in the race.
More than 150...
There’s no such thing as a “moderate democrat”.
