We generally have a case of it in the pantry.
A couple in their mid to late 20’s were evicted this month for non payment of rent. There are 2 people in that apartment and they have a nice pickup and suv. Never understood people who live like that. I have a relative who will work hard to avoid work and gets by on SSI.
Bad luck can happen to anyone but the examples I gave above were life choices.
Commiefa liars took the 'average' food stamp allocation for a family of four and used that as a starting point for food. That was the key fraud... the 'core' lie.
Food stamps are allocated based on family income. A family receives LESS food stamp money the closer they get to a middle class income level - BECAUSE they are expected to 'chip in' more of their own money as they go up the income ladder.
Commiefa uses the gullibility of Church leaders to push an agenda that's pure evil and used 'fraud' to do it...
LOL! As long as there is an escape available when needed, the experiment is pointless. Except to maybe instill enough guilt that the parishoners will give some extra to the parish. Like the celebs that do it for a week and have a better understanding of the issue. As they relax by the pool.
Mine too. She used to turn out biscuits from scratch for a family of 12 as easily as if they were fast food or toast. Flour, water, and shortening. Roll it out, cut with a glass tumbler. They can be eaten as a sweet or a savory, also.
Yeah Buddy. Love to boil up a batch.
And better quality, especially when you find semi-vintage, hardly used, good label (the classics) clothing. My now very wealthy stepson got his best suits that way, when he was starting out.
Yup. We had them one time. Cost me $90.00 for $120.00 for the stamps. Figured we could do it better with the cash so off the stamps.
And they dont take into account all the extra freebies which are available now, like free lunches, breakfasts, in school, and now even out of school. They get food stamps and if they wanted to bother, wouldnt need to use but a tiny portion of them to feed their kids.
I love a good crawfish or shrimp boil, strangely enough, I love the extras in the boil even better than the seafood (ie the corn, onions, potatoes). But thats not to say I cant peel shrimp like a machine, lol.
Once in a while I check out the stuff at thrift shops. A few months ago, I was in Bend, OR and stopped in one figuring they might have some outdoor gear.
I’ve been looking for a lightweight down jacket for backpacking for years. I refuse to pay $200 for a new one.
Got a brand new $200 Mountain Hardwear brand one there for $35.
My parents had a lavish lifestyle while dad was a high level bureaucrat in the kingdom of a Maharaja. Then the kingdoms were dissolved and dad lost his job.
That was poverty...going from a great lifestyle to barely scraping by. In my book poverty is relative. The poor people in India do not obsess over their meager incomes. They are too busy working to survive and their entertainment is family, relatives and friends getting together. Compared to the poor people in India, USA has no poor people receiving multitude of government assistance.
Nothing insulting about it. It happens to be reality FOR SOME PEOPLE. I am a member of SVDP, and have done MANY home visits to very needy people and families to deliver food and ascertain what other needs they might have.
Note that these are NOT homeless people, but folks who are on that last rung before reaching that stage. SVDP tries to keep them from slipping off that last rung (there are other Catholic agencies that minister to the homeless).
We also work with other churches and other agencies to prevent duplication of effort.
"Some of us have LIVED it. Trying to raise a family of four making $25K in a crappy job, etc. Most of us did not stay there"
No, you did not. I can promise that the situations these people are facing is far worse that what you describe.
Tillamook cheese in Texas. Cool.
Yup. Toss in some redskin taters and corn. BOOM! We one time popped holes in some canned corn took off the labels and tossed it in the boil. Man was it good when we opened it up and dumped it in a big bowl. Living where we do now, crawfish boils are not real prevalent. Dang.
There were many, many nights that I had water for dinner during my first couple years of school - that I paid for by working my ass off. Many times it was brought down to a simple decision: Do I buy dinner or $10 bucks of gas so I can get to school and work?
6 years later I’m working on my masters degree and do construction on the side making silly good money.
I remember about 2 years ago I was running around nearby towns looking for firewood to sell so I made some pocket change in the winter. I shit you not, I went to this poor area of a local city where there was a huge pile of cut up Locust wood that I know I could make a pretty penny on, and was stared at by about 10 welfare recipients sitting on the damn curb doing nothing. They had money right it front of them and either didn’t know or didn’t care.
I stand my ground in saying poverty is a choice. There is no reason someone cannot be productive and support themselves and become comfortable.
I was born in 1932.
My brother was born in 1935.
Our father died in 1938.
I have survived.
.
I also used to tell folks, when they talked about boiling up 20 pounds or so, “What are y’all gonna eat?” LOL!
Nor do they have a clue as to what being oppressed really is. They think they’re oppressed here? Dumbasses!
