Claire McCaskill Is in Trouble (Poll)
Weekly Staqndard ^ | July 12, 2018 | Andrew Egger

New polling shows Missouri Republican Senate candidate Josh Hawley with a slight lead over Democratic incumbent Claire McCaskill in what promises to be one of the country’s tightest and most consequential races.

The new head-to-head survey, which was conducted last week by GOP pollster Remington Research, shows Hawley two points up on McCaskill, 48-46. The poll provides the first glimpse into Missouri voters’ thinking on the race since Republican governor Eric Greitens resigned in May over allegations of sexual misconduct and violations of campaign finance law, bringing an abrupt end to a months-long scandal that was widely seen as a drag on Hawley’s electoral chances.

Hawley, the state’s attorney general, has portrayed McCaskill as an out-of-touch leftist who reflexively opposes President Donald Trump’s agenda and has more in common with coastal elites than with her own Missouri constituents. McCaskill responded with authenticity-based arguments of her own, mocking the Yale-educated Hawley’s “fancy law school” pedigree.

I didn't see this posted. It's from a couple of weeks ago. Yeah it's from the Weakly Standard, but I like the headline.

So what happens when Trump endorses this guy? I'll give you a hint... It's when McCaskill should pick out her retirement home.

I think the Dems are a) confused, b) panicked and c) old dogs that can’t learn new tricks in dealing with the political realities of today and/or the Trump era.

You and I regard the swamp as a febrile, diseased place while members of Congress, especially Senators, think of it as a luxurious waterbed. They are so used to a plush, posh lifestyle that they have forgotten how to do the hard miles.

The production houses keep churning out the same TV ads:
-candidate with reading glasses on doing late-night paperwork along in the office
-candidate walking down hallway with constituents or with famous political figure (eg Obama)
-candidate meeting with kids, senior citizens, hard-hat workers or teachers
-candidate speaking at a rally or in a committee meeting

Rinse and repeat.

After many years in office but especially during the Obama years in which all government types took goldbricking to ridiculous extremes, Senators are showing their age literally and metaphorically.

McCaskill is one I really want to see go down this November. Bill Nelson is another. These are two very left leaning Democrats in two red states. Neither represents their state’s values.

Heitkamp and Joe Donnelly are in trouble in North Dakota and Indiana respectively but neither is as obnoxiously Leftist as McCaskill or Nelson.

It's going to be close regardless. Hawley can win if he doesn't make a major gaff, something the Missouri GOP has shown itself to be prone to.

The big worry, as I see it, is Hawley's inexperience. He's run in one election - Missouri AG - which was hardly a major media campaign. He's in prime time now. Can he make it through November without screwing up? The jury is out. Does he have any skeletons in his closet? I hope not because if he does then McCaskill has them and is waiting for the right time to use them.

Claire McCaskill should have gone to the retirement home in 2012 - but she was running against against Todd Akin, who came up with an odd assessment of why there could be no children conceived as a result of rape - that the woman’s body had a “defense” against the consequences of rape.

A stupid gaffe that effectively destroyed Todd Akin’s credibility for all time. May we be protected from such errant nonsense on the part of her Republican challenger in this election.

Didn’t she go to UVA law?

That’s not a mail order degree.

I certainly hope so. Need to be rid of this Democrat troublemaker. O.K. that was redundant.

Someone needs to open a retirement home for the swamp dwellers. It will be a thriving business after January 2019.

What’s wrong with the folks in Montana ?!?!?!

Montanans like to send Republicans to Helena and Democrats to Washington. The former know how to run the state the way they like it, and the later are better at bringing home the federal bacon.

Apparently Claire has decided to go all in with the Progressive Democrats, counting on St. Louis, Kansas City, and Columbia to give her a majority. That’s all that she will get, the rest of the state will be solid red. She will not vote to confirm Kavanaugh, the same vote that she cast for Gorsuch. She is a Ginsberg, Kagan, and Sotomayor gal. I’m guessing that her Democrat base will not turn out for her this year.

Hawley is probably up by 6 points if the poll is reporting 2.

That’s reasonable and funny. The Democrats bring home the money and the Republicans make sure it’s spent correctly - Lol !!!

This seat should have been won in 2012 if we didn’t have that idiot Todd “legitimate rape” Akin. MO was a blowout win for Trump so I expect a GOP pickup.
