New city tech workers dreaming of dining in workplace cafeterias may soon face a harsh reality — going outside.
Two city legislators on Tuesday are expected to announce legislation banning on-site workplace cafeterias in an effort to promote and support local restaurants.
The measure, proposed by Supervisor Ahsha Safai and co-sponsored by Supervisor Aaron Peskin, would adjust zoning laws to ban workplace cafeterias moving forward, but would not be retroactive.
Peskin said the measure, was inspired by tech companies like Twitter and Airbnb, which are widely known to have access to dining in their own buildings, depriving nearby restaurants of the dollars usually spent by nearby workers. The measure has the support of Gwyneth Borden, executive director of the Golden Gate Restaurant Association and other local merchants.
Under the legislation which is expected to be introduced Tuesday, “you can’t have an industrial kitchen in your office building,” Peskin said.
Peskin said the legislation sought to avoid the “Amazon effect that impacts retail and restaurants across the county,” he said. “This is forward thinking legislation.”

A: Have people so disgusted they don't want to walk the streets to go to local eateries.
B: The protected homeless, illegals, drug users and crap covered streets wouldn't be driving citizens from the city and keeping tourists from visiting.
But this is a city run by liberals so they seek to tightly control producers while giving the producers money to the freeloaders and allowing the free loaders to whatever they desire.
What else would you expect from a city that gives free rein to disgusting perverts parading around nude a nude semi nude in front of children?

Kind of the same thing I do. Sometimes just to get out I will take my lunch to my Dads business and eat lunch with him and visit.
Fsckwits. As if the restaurants have some inherent right to the money regardless of the market (which market I might add was that way when they built)! If they passed that and took away my choice of where to get my lunch, I'd brown bag every day for the next 10 years to make sure those restaurants stayed "deprived" of revenue.
I used to do some work with IBM in Rochester, MN, and their cafeteria (which was huge) was the equivalent of any restaurant, better than most.
Eating out gets expensive if you do that all the time. I suspect many will bring lunch rather than go to the local eating places.
And the principle even more so. If they're so delusional they think they can tell me where I'm "allowed" to eat lunch, doing everthing I can to make sure they don't get whatever it is they want is a moral obligation.
1) Obamacare says they're not allowed to risk-adjust rates, which is why the premiums are skyrocketing.
2) I'm sure they'd try that, but most "nutrition science" is so fsked up the law of unintended would definitely kick in. They'd end up killing all the libs and the normal would still be alive. Oh, wait......I'm rethinking my position on this.....

So let me see if I have this right. Commies pass unworkable minimum wage standards on restaurants, next they notice restaurants are struggling or going under, then some genius politician decides the reason is because area businesses have on site facilities for staff meals, presto change-o another brilliantly sophistic plan by our betters. Am I understanding this correctly? This is the antithesis of the invisible hand.
There are a hell of a lot of restaurants in San Francisco. It's going to be dog-eat-dog even more so with that new wage. You bet the Inner Council of Fascist San Francisco Supervisors are doing it for that reason. And when more people start brown bagging it these same Fascists will have an excise tax on Brown Paper bags and Tupperware type containers. It's San Fransisco, where today's jokes are tommorows reality.

Cool! I worked back in the mid 80s for a company supplying electroless nickel and cobalt finishing equipment to the disc operation, then a different company subcontracted control systems to me for similar equipment in the early 90’s, then a couple more machines, once again as an employee, in the late 90s just before they got out of discs.
I got a completely visible hand (gesture) for them. Well, part of the hand anyway.
