I come from generations of farmers in North Dakota. Church going, apple pie and as conservative as can be. Until an election comes around.
Promise good subsidies and you can be a democrat Senator for life.
Well, if the Chinamen aren't eating them, we'll have to take up the slack. Remember, too, that if demand goes down, prices will go down too, and that will encourage consumption. A win-win proposition for all concerned!

The funding still has to come from Congress. I doubt that there is a majority in either house willing to pass this.
Whirlpool just had a big earnings miss, partially blamed on high steel costs due to tariffs.
Looking forward to sending them some of my tax dollars soon.

Except, of course, for the producer who is faced with losing money on every bushel he grows or pig he raises. The end result will be higher prices as supply decreases when the farmers go belly up. No pun intended.

Why not then donate the excess that can’t be sold to countries where folks are starving until playing field is leveled. When that happens you might end up selling even more of your produce to China.

I don't. Farming is the ghetto corner of the economy. It is low tech, for the most part brainless activity,low value added and the biggest employer of illegal labor. I have zero respect for the industry.
Perhaps, but I would assume the last thing we would want to do is imitate Obama in anything. This may not be on the same scale - yet - but #12 billion here, $12 billion there, soon you're talking real money.
