Joe Lieberman urges voters to back Crowley over Ocasio-Cortez in general

Former Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) is urging voters in the general election to vote for Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-N.Y.) instead of Democratic nominee Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who upset him in the party primary.

"Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s surprise primary victory over Rep. Joe Crowley seems likely to hurt Congress, America and the Democratic Party. It doesn’t have to," Lieberman wrote in an op-ed published Tuesday in The Wall Street Journal.

ADVERTISEMENT "Because the policies Ms. Ocasio-Cortez advocates are so far from the mainstream, her election in November would make it harder for Congress to stop fighting and start fixing problems."

Lieberman noted that Crowley's name will still be on the ballot as the nominee of the Working Families Party.

“Thanks to a small percentage of primary votes, all of the people of New York’s 14th Congressional District stand to lose a very effective representative in Washington,” Lieberman wrote. “Fortunately, Joe Crowley and the voters in his district can prevent this damage.”

Ocasio-Cortez defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points in the June 28 Democratic primary.

Crowley is an old machine Democrat. he’s a Lieberman, perhaps fairly an old Hubert Humphrey Democrat.

Bad as that is, it’s preferable to a socialist like Ocasio-Cortez. I’d rather get 5-10 percent than zero.

Of course, I’d rather get 100 percent, even 90, than any Democrat — but we’re talking about degree here, in a heavily Democrat district (Queens-Bronx.)

It’s a heavily Democrat district, with a minimal chance of electing a Republican. That’s extremely unlikely — especially since the Conservative Party and the Reform Party have their won nominees.

James Buckley was elected Senator from New York solely on the Conservative Party line, and he caucused with the Republicans (though he jokingly threatened to caucus with Independent Senator Harry Byrd of Virginia.)

Six years later, he ran as a Republican-Conservative and lost.

Lieberman is Bolshevik scum, why would this surprise you?

I'm just gobsmacked that the Democrats are coming off the bloodying Bernie-DNC tampering thing, and Lieberman trots out - more tampering.

I need a head-slapping emoji.

Sorry, Joe - the lemmings have been trained to vote (D) no matter what.

I guess the other question would be - would he be eligible to serve as Democrat Caucus Chairman if he is not elected on the Democrat line?

I don’t know but I’m guessing no....Younger Dems want fresh blood in the House Democrat leadership anyway.
