“Uncritical” readings are presumably for innocuous children’s books like “Heather Has Two Mommies.”

Considering the technological superiority of the Europeans, it was to be expected that they would dominate at least culturally. The Indians were technologically behind, but not at all stupid. I'd reckon that once you've used a steel axe to cut down a tree, you'll never willingly use a stone axe again.

So for that reason --- and by reason of their overwhelming numerical superiority --- that the Europeans would dominate, was inevitable. But the WAY they dominated was unconscionable.

Not to indulge in any "noble savage" nonsense, nevertheless the Euro-Americans advanced by the near-total violation of every written treaty. Trail of Tears. For the most part, it was treaty-breaking and land-theft plain and simple.

Oh, exactly. That's what's so maddening.

Home-schoolers ---all parents, that is, but in my ideal world all parents would be home-schoolers --- would be well advised to grab up the oldest books they can get, like NOW before they end up in the landfill. They provide a crucial source of cultural reflection, and are incomparably richer than the crap that's being put out today.

Can you imagine pajama boy on the Frontier? Or any of today's snowflakes?

Yep.

If they caught them, the Indians would either have hideously mutilated them and burned them at the stake or turned them into slaves after they sliced their Achilles tendons so they wouldn't run off.

They wouldn't have tried to ransom them back as they know they wouldn't be worth anything.

Besides the books, what about all the movies and tv shows.
History must be re-written again and again as the snowflakes demand it.
