Elon was unfairly trashed by a jerk. He doesn't need PR stunts... he already very well known. Every time SpaceX launches he gets more press than most companies get in a year. We should be happy that he has taken space semi-private (getting there) and thankful he is doing so in America with a mostly American workforce.
