[BEIJING] A hotel in the Chinese city of Shenzhen plans to charge its US guests an extra 25 per cent amid a trade war between Beijing and Washington, according to the Global Times, a tabloid published by the ruling Communist Party's People's Daily.

The Modern Classic Hotel Group had put up a notice at its hotel informing guests of the extra charge on American guests, the paper said in a report dated Thursday.

"We put up the notice last Friday. Our boss was really angry about the endless tariffs the US planned to impose on China, so we decided to stand with the country and show our support," a spokesperson of the hotel surnamed Yang told the paper.

People answering the phone on Friday at numbers on the hotel's website said they were unaware of the policy.

Posting what to me, is a (very) interesting story, out of China. Today.

Sure would have been simpler, if Xi had simply agreed to buy a bunch more, from America.

But no...

Go Donald. :D

There are American hotels in China. Stay at the Hilton instead

Yes. Use an American hotel instead. But be sure to give the Classic Group a call to voice your displeasure .

Well, if they’re down to that I’d love to see Pres Trump put out the feelers that he’s getting ready to revoke all student visa’s for Chinese students. I’m sure there are plenty of American kids that were turned down at schools that could backfill those slots.

What about we increase tuition at U universities by 25% for Chinese. With the extra money going to the US government (not the liberal universities)?

I am (100%) for that idea.

That is exactly what we should do.

Trump should make this a big issue. China really is wrong on this issue.

Very, very wrong.

I believe this is a small test, of Trump. It seems like a new, nice hotel.

Stand up Trump.

Strongly.

Right now.

Thanks for posting it.

I looked it up and they seem to have a total of two hotels plus a dumpy little resort? Chinese company looking for some nationalist favor perhaps?

Look at what the article said:

“[BEIJING] A hotel in the Chinese city of Shenzhen plans to charge its US guests an extra 25 per cent amid a trade war between Beijing and Washington, according to the Global Times, a tabloid published by the ruling Communist Party’s People’s Daily. “

This is from the government, maybe. “A tabloid published by the ruling Communist Party’s People’s Daily”...

This seems to me, to be a move by the government.

Maybe.

Just saying.

People answering the phone on Friday at numbers on the hotel’s website said they were unaware of the policy.

...

So this is probably just a publicity stunt.

“Sure would have been simpler, if Xi had simply agreed to buy a bunch more, from America.”

Xi has, for him, a life or death problem. His position is only safe as long as the Chinese economy...meaning the average person, is doing really well. If he does anything to rock the already leaking boat, he’ll be out of power. The Chinese economy is already in a huge bubble. Almost anything could pop that bubble. Instead of there being a win/win for him, there is likely only a bunch of lose/lose policies. Now, if he had played along with Trump, they probably could have worked something out. But, that’s not how the game is played.

Good catch; I missed that. Global Times is owned and published by Peoples Daily.

Retired in SE Asia I see the Chinese influence all around me. China says "Sh#t" in this part of Asia and the local pols simply ask what color and how much?

The Trump administration says the U.S. will limit Chinese students who study in high-tech fields to one-year visas starting June 11.

Like there aren’t other hotels in China. If many Americans stay there, he’ll lose business.
