If you are concerned about government surveillance, you should be skeptical of Brett Kavanaugh
Washington Examiner ^ | July 11, 2018 | Erin Dunne

The Fourth Amendment broadly guarantees that Americans should be free from government intrusion in their homes and private lives and that infringements on these rights must come with the justification of a warrant or probable cause. These guarantees and protections form the basis of property protections and a right to privacy both of which are fundamental to individual liberty.

In 2015, Kavanaugh went out of his way to minimize these protections. During his tenure on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, he issued a separate concurrence in the denial of a rehearing en banc in Klayman v. Obama. That case dealt with the constitutionality of the National Security Agency’s collection of telephone metadata of all Americans. In telecommunications, metadata is the information on the length and time of calls and their origins and destinations which includes a sweeping amount of data and can offer broad details of the private lives of Americans. In his statement, Kavanaugh sided with the government writing, “In my view, the government’s metadata collection program is entirely consistent with the Fourth Amendment.”

Kavanaugh apparently believes that the Fourth Amendment allows the government to collect our data. That is disturbing.

Simple, don’t publish data that you want private.

IE don’t post anything on the internet that you don’t want your mother, priest, best friend, kids, cat or government to see

No longer a problem.

That ship sailed about a week after the invention of the telegraph. When we lived in Florida my late father’s job at the telephone company was tapping phones during the entirety of his shift every day. He belonged to a large department that did nothing else 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. LBJ and Nixon were in the White House at the time.

I’m amazed at the people who come on the internet to talk about the weapons they own.

Don’t worry about it. He is Trump’s choice, get behind him.

Implying that this can never be fixed is like McCain stating that Manufacturing jobs are never coming back because of Globalism.

Our President just disproved that "truth" in less than a year.

Pretty sure the privacy of yours and my communication is also just a problem waiting to be resolved.

I dunno. I own an M1A1, an F15, an A10, and a really good 22 for rabbit hunting.

Weapons? What weapons? The police and the Army may need weapons, but we surely don’t. Right?

I recall somewhere around the late 80s, there was a federal department that claimed it could listen into one half of all phone calls in the US at a time.

And, iirc, from the ‘30s onward, the FBI kept agents or trained assets in all comms hubs that dealt with overseas communications originating from the US. Except privately owned shortwave. And even that was listened into by agents or assets using scanners.

People like to brag, it is why cops love social media. Facebook makes is easy to track down the guy that just robbed the convenience store when he posts a picture of himself fanning out the cash he just jack’d

Kindof hard when you only have a one car garage and a 30 foot driveway.

Why would a government that gains from snooping on us want to resolve that problem? They don’t consider it a problem. Same goes for Google, Facebook and that lot.

Call me a hand wringer put I have to give the Dem’s and Media credit. Their organized effort to pump out negative story after story is a very organized operation. Yes, seems like a real “community organizer” in full throttle operation.

I would be lying if I said it didn’t concern me.

We must all get the vote out for mid-terms.....

(sorry for hand wringing.....just nervous every now and then).....

The entire AT&T system was designed so the government could listen in at anytime they wanted.

“wiretaps” were child’s play

the “wiretap” was built into the phone switches since the 60’s

Now we have the internet and smart phones, instead of hardware, now they just need software, easier and cheaper. Plus you can get pics of the subject, GPS cords, etc as well

During the war when my mother was a child my grandmother (an immigrant from Germany) took in a boarder. After about three weeks he let her know that he was an FBI agent and she had passed the test.
