German coalition parties agree tougher migrant policy: SPD chief

BERLIN (AFP) -

The three parties in Chancellor Angela Merkel's shaky coalition government on Thursday rallied around a tougher policy on migration and asylum aimed at placating conservative allies.

At the end of a month-long dispute, Merkel's three-party coalition agreed to a compromise under which the number of asylum-seekers in the country will be reduced.

The parties in power -- Merkel's centre-right CDU, the hardline conservative Bavarian CSU ally and the centre-left Social Democrats (SPD) -- agreed on a "reorganisation of asylum policy" in Germany, SPD chief Andrea Nahles said after a summit meeting in Berlin, adding that it was a "good solution".

The SPD had earlier declined to endorse new policies put forward by Merkel in a bid to put down a rebellion by Interior Minister Horst Seehofer of the CSU.

In high-stakes crisis talks overnight Monday to Tuesday, Merkel advocated tightening border controls and setting up closed "transit centres" to hold migrants on the Austrian frontier.

Yeah it is. But the alternative was to walk out, and force a new election.

Since the Sep 2017 national election...the SPD Party has lost points (maybe six points). They would be lucky to turn 17 percent of a national election right now. Depending on their lead candidate....it could even dip down to 15 percent. So they’ve had this mindset that they need to regroup, rebuild, and prepare for 2021. Seehofer knew this and pressed on with his all or nothing agenda.

You can draw the line of total votes for the SPD and CDU/CSU combined for the past six elections, and it’s all downward. The alternate parties (Linke, Greens, FDP and AfD) have the gains, and I think in the next election....they will combine to have 50-plus percent of the vote.

Too late, bitch. Don't trust her. Germany needs a no-confidence vote ASAP.

Here’s the irony: at a time when Democrats seek to abolish ICE, Germany’s socialists have agreed to secure borders.
