On Sunday, July 1, 2018, at approximately 7:35 p.m., officers from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to Gilbert Run Park located at 13140 Charles Street in La Plata, for a death investigation.
Upon arrival, officers located a man and a young girl inside a pickup truck; both were deceased.
Detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division responded and learned the man is the girl’s biological father. He had court-ordered visitation rights with her and was supposed to return her home on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. When he did not arrive and no one could reach him, family members became concerned and began searching for them. They located his truck at the park and notified police.
Investigation showed the father shot and killed his daughter and then shot and killed himself. Detectives recovered a handgun inside the truck. The victim has been identified as Maddie Sabre Davis, 3, from La Plata. The father has been identified as Brian Duncan Davis, 33, of La Plata.
Detective Brion Buchanan is investigating.

I’m surprised this sort of thing doesn’t happen more often, particularly in BLUE states. Have you SEEN the child support statutes in these states? They are absolutely brutal, impoverishing men for 18-26 years.
No it’s not right and yes it’s evil, but then again so is mom-centric “family” court where dads are nothing but ATMs.

BULL!!!! Used to live and work close to this area. Other then Prince Georges, Montgomery, Baltimore and maybe now Howard and Anne Arundel the rest is conservative. This guy was nuts and never should have had COURT ORDERED CUSODY.
Have you SEEN the custody and alimony decisions in the blue counties when it comes to divorcing stay at home mom. I have a friends with advance degrees who decided to become stay at home moms for a decade or 2 who the courts decided should be able to go back to their previous jobs in a couple months!! The courts here hate stay at home moms.
I’ve seen abusive husbands get partial custody of their kids, and use them to further punish their wives. That’s EVIL.

Dads getting custody is as rare as the spotted unicorn here in NY. Usually stay-in-bed mommykins (no offense to the REAL homemakers out there) gets full custody, massive child support, then starts immediately to alienate said children from dad. I’ve seen this time and again and lived it with my husband (and am currently living it for the past 14 years)
Child support laws got draconian with Bill The Rapist Clinton mandating that local CS enforcement agencies get federal kickbacks based on the highest amount they can possibly collect.
I was a divorced mom in the eighties and I didn’t receive ANY child support; back then a father could dodge it fairly easily. The pendulum swung the other way in the 90s and remains that way. All these “independent feminists” sure do love their ex’s wallet.

Some of us moms never got the luxury of being stay-at-home moms—back in the eighties, we had to go out to work, especially if we were truly single moms (divorced and left high and dry)
