If they were to stop importing Mexians they wouldn’t be so big and diverse and it would be easier to govern.

This ballot item is of no significance.

The only way this is happening is for Wyoming or Idaho to split 3 ways, so there will be six conservative Senators to balance the six communists from New California.

Just like 1820. You can’t have Missouri without Maine.

It’s not unconstitutional, it’s just very difficult to accomplish.

Dividing California up is fine. That division is unacceptable. 2 states. One state can be the coastal strip North of Orange County to north of Oakland and dipping in to include Sacramento. The rest will be the remainder of the current state. That is the only acceptable division.

Good Lrd, you anti-bloggers. So you totally respect the NYT and WaPo, good to click on those links, but WONT CLICK ON HANNITY, calling him clickbait (as if Hannity needed those dimes)? Hannity, who literally sacrifices his career and reputation for what you believe in? Maybe you’re throwing the baby out with the bloghating bathwater?

New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress

Woukd not the "Consent of the Legislatures of the States" mean that a ballot initiative doesn't count?

Northern California with San Francisco as the capital,...

They misspelled "CRAPITAL".

Yes, you have nailed it! (I live in California)

We may not need to do anything. people are seriously pissed at the legislature.

“The constitution won’t allow it.”

Yes it does.

Article Four, Section Three:

“New states may be admitted by the Congress into this union; but no new states shall be formed or erected within the jurisdiction of any other state; nor any state be formed by the junction of two or more states, or parts of states, without the consent of the legislatures of the states concerned as well as of the Congress.”

In California the Legislature has lawfully delegated authority to the people in the form of the referendum.

That means that the California voters can approve this measure and then it goes to Congress. Congress at that point can decide the borders of the new states and fix any errors that are in the proposed map.

The key issue being that California wishes to divorce itself.

This is an opportunity for Congress to break up the power base in California by concentrating the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles in one state, make San Diego a Red state, and put the food and water in another Red state.

Excuse me but you misspelled ‘Kamila’.

It’s K-a-m-e-l-t-o-e.

"When I was growing up on the east side of Washington there was occasionally talks about combining eastern Washington, northern Idaho and western Montana."

I remember that. I love eastern Washington, and Montana and Idaho, where people still live and behave like human beings, and I'd like nothing better than to see them all out from under the heel of the loathsome I-5 corridor. It's a little painful when I engage people in those places, and feel the contempt they have for "the coast," but I certainly understand why.

Disagree. Two Liberal states and one Conservative is a push in the Senate.

The big win for us would be in the electoral college. Even if its 10 or 12 votes, that would be YUGE.

... many voters agreeing that the Golden State is simply too diverse and large to properly govern.

California has 163,695 sq mi. Texas has 268,580 sq mi.

I don't hear folks in TX clambering to split into three states.

Hmmm...

I guess some folks will never be happy.

Here’s the more succinct version.

“... no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State...without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.
Article IV, Section 3, Clause 1

So it can be done, provided the last two requirements are met (consent of the legislatures, and consent of Congress).

Wrong. The purpose is to let conservative parts of the state gain some political power, which they clearly would

Been awhile since I studied this, so someone correct me if I’m wrong, but assuming this split passes, wouldn’t the pieces, or at minimum two of them, need to reapply for statehood ?

Which could be gleefully refused :-))
