NSA deleting more than 685 million call records due to 'technical irregularities'
Washington Times ^ | July 1, 2018 | Deb Riechmann and Susannah George

The National Security Agency is deleting more than 685 million call records the government obtained since 2015 from telecommunication companies in connection with investigations, raising questions about the viability of the program.

The NSA’s bulk collection of call records was initially curtailed by Congress after former NSA contractor Edward Snowden leaked documents revealing extensive government surveillance. The law, enacted in June 2015, said that going forward, the data would be retained by telecommunications companies, not the NSA, but that the intelligence agency could query the massive database.

Now the NSA is deleting all the information it collected from the queries. The agency released a statement late Thursday saying it started deleting the records in May after NSA analysts noted “technical irregularities in some data received from telecommunication service providers.” It also said the irregularities resulted in the NSA obtaining some call details it was not authorized to receive.

You have to understand that this data is nearly useless except to go back and do data mining.

There is to much to analyze in real time- you can only sift through it later looking for something specific.

You can search and find a history of a terrorists activities, OR just a political enemy.

Either deleting evidence of government malfeasance, or “deleting” but keeping it.
Either way, I don’t trust the NSA.

Fortunately, the only records lost pertain to Obola, Hillary! and every other dem politician in DC; so it wasn’t a total loss.

right. Just archive them. It is suspicious that there might be stuff in the those records that they want to get rid of and are making a public statement to cover themselves.

Sure they are....SURE they are. And if they ever delete as much as a keystroke it is to hide the evidence of the intel community coup attempt.

We really are at the point that firing squad would be morally and legally justified. This was an honest to god, banana republic, attempt be security agencies to take over the government. Since they seized control by killing JFK, they have been terrified that the people would one day rise up.
And we did with Trump.

“and are making a public statement to cover themselves.”

Exactly. The fact that the NSA is putting out a press release tells you this is something they don’t want to “get caught” doing later. So they sheep dip it as a normal day of them complying with the law.

It’s BS only a moron would believe.

Assuming they’re actually doing it, which quite honestly I don’t believe, I would equate it with the Nazis shredding all the evidence after the war was lost.

And they care about this, they really do! Enough to publicise this act of integrity. We really can trust them! My faith is restored! /s
