Tim Scott: Discussing race with Trump was 'painful' but made me 'hopeful'
The Hill ^ | 06/30/18 | Max Greenwood

Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) acknowledged that his conversations with President Trump about race have been "painful" and "uncomfortable," but insisted that the president has kept an open mind on the issue.

"They're hard, they're painful, they're uncomfortable to sit in the Oval Office and have a conversation with the president about things that you strongly disagree about," Scott told CNN's Van Jones. "He didn't change his perspective, I certainly can't change my perspective."

But Scott also said that he was "hopeful" after the conversations.

"The way it closed I thought gave me reasons to be hopeful," Scott recalled. "It closed with: 'Tim I don't see what you see. What can I do to make things better.'"

"That was a shocking response. I was surprised after the conversation that his response was: 'Help me see a better light," he continued.

Scott added that it was after that interaction that Trump agreed to back his legislation creating "Opportunity Zones," which seek to use tax incentives to draw investment to areas of the country with high poverty and low economic growth.

Scott's meeting with Trump last year came after Trump faced bipartisan backlash for insisting that both white nationalists and counterprotesters were responsible for the violence that broke out in Charlottesville, Va. last August during a rally organized by racist groups.

Scott told CNN in April that he does not believe that Trump is a racist, but said that the president can be "racially insensitive."

disagreements about race?
is this Scott fellow a racist?
(he’s not a Dem so probably he isn’t...the Dems seem to have the patent on racism....always have, too, when you study their history)

it was probably “painful” because Trump doesn’t automatically default to the politically correct bowing and scraping, and begging forgiveness for the sins of his ancestors.

>>Scott’s meeting with Trump last year came after Trump faced bipartisan backlash for insisting that both white nationalists and counterprotesters

The “white nationalist” rally was organized by an Obama agent provocateur. The “Counterprotesters” were militant Communists who call police, Bush, and FReepers (individually identified) “Fascists”.

"Trump faced bipartisan backlash for insisting that both white nationalists and counterprotesters were responsible for the violence that broke out in Charlottesville, Va. last August"

The president was correct.

Scott must be taking PC lessons from his seat-mate, Lindsey Graham. But since McCain is holed up in AZ, Lindsey has been a little more bearable.

What have I been posting since this clown was elected? And Freepers thought I was racist. I’ve seen his video interviews...he’s lying in most of them.

I’m in Hollywood and have been to more than 1 million hours of camera work and casting. I know acting when I see it. He lied his way to the elections...

Senator IF you actually paid attention to the gathering in Charlottesville, VA, it was a 'set-up' by liberals to necklace President Trump's voters as KKK, Nazis, and racists. The turkey that organized one bunch was formerly a worker for OccupyWall Street, hardly a conservative. Those that ignore history are doomed to repeat it. President Trump's reaction was 100% correct.

At the core, this is the problem with most blacks. They have this "Keep it real" attitude that they have to portray so they won't be seen as sell-outs.

Also why blacks see themselves in the collective and not as individuals.
