Brown claims that a U.S. AC-130 gunship, circling above the Chinook at the time of the shootdown, spotted suspected Taliban insurgents moving on the ground towards the Chinook’s landing zone, and requested permission to attack and eliminate the suspected Taliban insurgents. However, Brown claims that the gunship was denied permission to attack the insurgents by U.S. military authorities, and moments later, the helicopter was shot down.

Brown argues that had either the AC-130 or two Apache attack helicopters accompanying the Chinook been allowed to clear the landing zone with suppression fire, that RPG-bearing Taliban insurgents would have eliminated, allowing the chopper to land safely.

A more likely scenario: a raghead with a RPG got lucky. In combat, the enemy have an opportunity to shoot at you. Sometimes they hit the target.

Yes, that is part of the problem: it was politically easier to use 10 seals rather than an army platoon or company. But there is very compelling information that it was the Green forces (Afghan Muslim Taliban translators /allies/command ) who betrayed them to the local shooters with missiles, then set them up with a non-special forces copter without decoy flares.

And the bottom line, is that this Ranger unit was stopped cold by an 8 man Taliban team. A company a regular Marine Infantry or even regular Army infantry could have wiped the floor with 8 enemy. This is especially true if they could use organic supporting arms like mortars and Rockets. Our leaders are incompetent, and they’re murdering Special Forces by using them as ersatz Infantry, or as a supporting arm.

I don’t buy that for a minute. That’s a cover story designed to do nothing more than let utterly incompetent flag and command level officers off the hook.
It was incompetent tactics, using Special Forces who are spectacularly bad when used as straight leg Infantry. They are too light, under equipped, too free thinking, and too poorly structured to conduct sustained assaults on fortified positions. And you nailed it it’s politically easier to use special forces then to put a company of infantry on the ground. On the flip side it would be utterly idiotic to use infantry for many special forces missions. Bottom line is that our generals are incompetent. Can anyone imagine an 8 man squad of Germans being able to stymie a company size straight leg infantry unit? Much less take on an entire company of Marines? It’s laughable

Thank God for this Air Force woman from the AC-130 telling the truth. Her aircraft and crew could have utterly prevented this, but the hard heads at JSOC couldn’t have air support do something that they could do more sexy and photogenic. Never mind that it cost a boatload of life

I BELIEVE Obama/Hillary were helping the Terrorists, in Benghazi, in Afghanistan, and other places. The plane full of cash to Iran.... Not just mistake, but intentional support for terrorism, imho.

Using Navy SEALs as QRF for Rangers is backwards. The Rangers usually support the SEALs. Putting all of the SEALs on one helicopter was ignorant. I always will believe the Taliban knew what was coming and nevertheless had a lucky shoot down of a helicopter. Just like Benghazi, we will probably never know the truth.
