Because they can do everything a voting member can do except vote. They can even serve in a non-voting capacity on committees.

“their ELECTORAL VOTES would ALWAYS go to the ‘RAT candidate—ALWAYS!”...….

My friend, a born and raised Puerto Rican from the island, told me this would be EXACTLY what would happen.. He said that MOST would be like welfare takers and let someone else do the work while they collected the free “goodies”. He used the recent hurricane as an example, let someone else come in and do the work......

Ooops, they can also vote in committees. But not on the floor. The other term for them is delegates. It’s what non-state territories sent to Congress. Codified in 1817.

Arguable. The practice actually pre-dates the Constitution. Not clear if the Constitution did away with the practice. Codified in 1817. Don’t know if that statute has ever been challenged.

The 1817 statute could probably be challenged on that basis. No one has. Standing would be tricky. Also, why bother? They’re generally powerless.

Perhaps I should’ve said Greenwich as opposed to Bridgeport or Hartford.

No way. Puerto Ricans are light years beyond the stagnant, never-improving Haitians.

Over most of recent history, we've had an even number of states. Who would be 52?

I think if the Democrats/Socialists/Communists/Progressives had their way, it would be Cuba!

I vote we give them back to Spain. “Sorry about all that Spanish-American War unpleasantness, all a big misunderstanding. Here, have this problematic island back.”

perhaps it is also time to give 99% liberal HAWAII
up for independence ..... Puerto Rico is simply a
total tax drain , turn um’ lose , neither of the islands has been able to achieve self sustainability . 100% of all
Hawaiian food is shipped over in Containers.
What does USA gain by sewing another star on the flag?
Those islanders will be forced to up grade all dwellings to meet USA Federal standards ... which they have refused to do so far. And Hawaii will soon demand full Federal funding to rebuild Lava flow residences ....
