It won’t be, of course. I wish I’d never read another word about the “dying” “dinosaur” media. Their big mainstream organs still set the agenda for most people to get their information, and they know it. All they’d have to do would be to knock Fox out, such as it is, in some way (takeover, from inside or out, open or invidious), and all we’d have left would be relatively small and parochial outlets for getting our perspective out. What would remain that’s even fairly mainstream? Maybe Breitbart? And the EU is trying to make it off-limits.

In a case of historical symmetry Americans who know The Times and its ilk won’t tell the truth will mirror Soviet citizens who knew that Pravda wouldn’t tell the truth, and listened to VOA, RT is looking a LOT more credible than our own sour sources.
Dammit.
Yes, but even when people know that they (the NYT and it’s ilk) lie, they (the NYT and it’s ilk) still can set the agenda by what news they choose to promote or ignore. I wouldn’t know half, not even that, of the skullduggery occurring in this country if I didn’t read FR and the like, and as much as I love FR, I can’t claim that it’s an influential or broad outlet.

I doubt Pravda ever set the agenda for VOA.
I doubt it also. What’s our VOA these days? Certainly not NPR or PBS, taxpayer-funded though they are (which needs to stop).

In this case the essential feature of VOA was that it was in absolutely no way did the Soviet Union control content, PBS and NPR fail that test for America because of deMille’s law -”He who eats my bread sings my song.”
We, like the inmates behind the Iron Curtain, will have to look outside our country for truth about what’s going on inside our country.
And like them, we will need to discern the propaganda mixed with those truths by the likes of RT, al jezeera, BBC, AFP and any other source.
People should think twice about trying this at a Walmart.
