Trump urges Republican lawmakers to drop immigration effort

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump urged Republicans lawmakers on Friday to drop their efforts to pass comprehensive immigration legislation until after the November elections that he hopes will see more party members voted into Congress.

The Republican president, faced with a public outcry over his policy that separated children from their migrant parents at the U.S. border with Mexico, tried to refocus the immigration debate on Congress in a series of early posts on Twitter.

Despite Republican control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, the party’s slim 51-49 majority in the latter chamber makes some Democratic support necessary to pass most legislation.

“Elect more Republicans in November and we will pass the finest, fairest and most comprehensive Immigration Bills anywhere in the world,” Trump said on Twitter.

“Republicans should stop wasting their time on Immigration until after we elect more Senators and Congressmen/women in November. Dems are just playing games, have no intention of doing anything to solves this decades old problem. We can pass great legislation after the Red Wave!” he said.

Well, either they will, or it will be reverse psychology and they’ll come up with something better.

I hope Donald is right about the “red wave” though he’d be wise to avoid being too imperious. The left is busy turning itself into a mess in its rage already — no sense in giving them some actual cause.

The Republican president, faced with a public outcry over the EXISTING 20-YEAR policy that separated children from their migrant parents at the U.S. border with Mexico,

Fixed it.

PDJT realizes this was a brazen uniparty effort to steamroller “comprehensive immigration reform” with no border wall being funded or built.

“faced with a public outcry“

False...faced with coordinated leftist media and Hollywood hysteria. The public is a whole different matter.

The only solution is war against Mexico.

Trump knew any decent bill would die in the Senate. Mitch said so weeks ago. So what was the point?

Simple.

We now have on record the pubbie traitors in the house! Pure campaign material to hammer them. A perfect primary list, it time to get rid of them.

Trump will campaign for their replacements.

>> Well, either they will, or it will be reverse psychology <<

Pres. Trump’s action looks self-defeating to me. I think the best thing would be to let the House pass either bill, then stand by and watch the Dhims kill it in the Senate. That course would give the ‘Pubs a strong issue to run on in the fall.

But now, what will they need to say?

Maybe something along the lines of,

“We couldn’t pass an immigration bill because Pres. Trump told us to drop it.”

Sorta like the dog ate my homework?

Somehow, I can’t see a winning strategy here.

The latest Dem play is that, like Trump tells the GOP to do, they won’t vote for any immigration bill. I think they would vote for a complete GOP surrender, but this is their latest hail mary for the midterms. If the courts force USCIS to release families into the USA the media will talk about nothing else. They hope that will get voters out in November, and I think that would encourage more of the same illegal immigration strategy. Alinsky on steroids if it works. Maybe SCOTUS can allow us to have a border, to have a nation.

That is not working. Trump already tried urging congress to do something.

Emphasis mine.

I am sick and damned tired of the mentally diseased left calling this "his policy." President Trump had nothing to do with this policy. It was passed by Congress as US LAW when nobama was playing tiddly winks in the White House.

It’s good strategy to wait. It’s not senate dems who would kill anything decent, it’s McConnell and his RINO’s. Too much risk that RINO’s and dems could override a veto. much better to wait til there’s more conservatives voted in and Ryan/McConnell are gone . (plus it’s a winning issue for his 2020 reelection) MAGA!

"...over his policy that separated children from their migrant parents ...."

What a joke. It's a CLINTON ERA policy. He just ordered it enforced.

The red wave already happened! The time to get funding for the WALL & tough immigration laws is NOW. Waiting until after the 2018 elections could be a fatal blow to the biggest & most important campaign promise (and to our whole country).

“The left is busy turning itself into a mess in its rage already — no sense in giving them some actual cause.”

They’re well-funded as we know. They also teach rage and pay others to have rage:

They could have done that with the Goodlatte bill. That is not what the House leadership is trying - they are trying to push through amnesty without effective controls in the heat of the moment.
