Probably not because they already do charge tax in most states, since they have fulfilment center in them and are growing.
i.e. they were probably for this.

My home state of New Jersey has been taxing internet purchases for years (who'd have thunk it of them?). Still, Amazon thrives here. I always said I would pay shipping or I'd pay sales tax but I won't pay both. Amazon Prime solved that, you do pay shipping because there's a fee but it's small and comes with lots of extras.
Bottom line: I doubt people flee Amazon. Some maybe. Not a large percentage though. Time will tell.

amazon is gonna take it in the shorts... Not really. The cost will be added to each sale and passed along to the end customer. Same thing happened when they realized they were going to have to pay more for using the USPS which was actually losing money when delivering for Amazon.
If you mean it will cause some people to shop locally rather than order online due to the savings of not paying taxes on the products then I very much agree with you.

It will hurt the UPS and other shippers though.

No. Ive paid sales tax from amazon in Florida for years now. Hasnt changed my buying habits at all. Most wont even bat an eye. Probably only around 10 States this affects. Most already pay sales taxes all over the country.
