. ..I operated two stores for ten years in the largest mall in Central Texas at the time. It was a first class mall in 1971 when it opened.
In the early eighties, the feral thugs you speak of began to show up. Initially, there was just a couple every now and then and then a rare incident that security quickly broke up. No big deal.
Then, in about my 8th year of my ten year lease, instead of 1 incident per month there were several. So, I got nervous. Then, when my lease came up for renewal I handed it back to them and shut down putting about 10 to 15 employees out of work. About 10 years later, the mall died. And it was a painful death. Local “gov’t” agencies bought it for pennies and turned it into a government give away center of some kind. The whole area is now run down.
exactly. the families should be held responsible for their idiot children, but most likely don’t have any moolah.
The two kids who tossed the cart Jeovanni Rosario, then 13, and Raymond Hernandez, 12 pleaded guilty in 2012 to assault.
The “teens” in the pic look to be quite large teens. Old enough to know better. What, I wonder, was their punishment?
Insurance company defense attorney? How much were they paying them, $50 an hour? High exposure case with a runaway verdict and a half assed jury? The 3 major borough Supremes, the Bronx, Brooklyn and Manhattan need major defense attorney’s in a high verdict potential area. Seen this occur a few times. The prime carriers and the reinsurance companies will appeal the verdict. LOL, it may look like a Lotto win, but there should be more activity to knock it down. Liability wise, its a crazy case. Definitely a deep pocket score.
I wonder which prison the “boys” are in now?
It wasn’t the company’s fault.
This poor women will need full time car for the rest of her life. In NYC and surrounding areas that can cost upwards of $200,000 per yr.
Anyone who owns commercial real estate in Harlem should probably be sued out of existence anyway.
This also needs to be posted: ie. liberal logic 101
“To this day, Marion maintains compassion for her assailants.
Those poor children who threw the cart were at a shopping mall because they had no place to go, she said.”
Wonder if she was this dense before they dropped the cart on her head?
Hedges and her son were buying Halloween candy for poor kids on Oct. 30, 2011, at the East River Plaza mall in East Harlem when the teens tossed the cart from a 79-foot-high landing outside a Target store.
Hedges suffered severe brain injuries when the cart knocked her to the ground.
But she never blamed Jeovanni Rosario, 13, and Raymond Hernandez, 12, who were behind the incident. Both teens were sentenced to time in juvenile facilities.
(the teens spent several months in a juvenile facility for crippling this woman.)
I just want to be able to do something with the money that helps kids in Harlem, I really do, Hedges said after the verdict, specifying that shed like to support the Johnson Community Center on East 113th Street. We want to help Harlem kids have a chance to do something besides throw a shopping cart on a boring Sunday afternoon, she said.
I hope this lousy rich liberal lady feels as much sympathy for the next victims maimed by these two punks.
“Malls are forced by law to admit feral thugs and are then held responsible when these feral thugs behave exactly as expected.”
cheaper just to go out of business and close down ... which is what most covered malls in the U.S. have done ...
My former boss, previously employed at a "juvenile facility" advised the boys there are subject to ...um ...um... "Gay Training".
