President Trump’s art of the deal is actually working

Thousands of brave lives and billions of pounds have been lost since prime minister Tony Blair, president George W Bush and their followers thought the best way to make the world a better place was to get rid of tyrants by military force. To everyone’s cost we now know that was wrong.

Instead, in an off-the-cuff remark, US President Donald Trump said this week that North Korea could swap its missile launch bases for beachside condominiums – what we’d call luxury apartments.

It revealed one of the strongest motives behind the North Korean tyrant’s U-turn on nuclear weaponry.

Looking across his borders at China and South Korea he can see that his best prospect for security is to make his people prosperous and not starve them to death.

From North Africa to North Korea there are a lot of lovely beaches and maybe Trump’s statement has an element of truth to it.

The best strategy for world peace is not costly regime change but for tyrants to spread the wealth around and give their people jobs and hope.

The Singapore peace deal nearly didn’t happen because an American adviser compared the denuclearisation of North Korea to Libya’s Colonel Gaddafi giving up his nuclear weapons.

Big mistake because the Western-enforced regime change in Libya has left this oilrich country a basket case of warring factions and ruthless people traffickers....

There is a reason President Trump agreed to meet Kim in Singapore. Singapore is a small Asian country that doesn't have nuclear weapons, yet lives in peace with its neighbors. It is as modern and wealthy as any country. Singapore today is what North Korea can be tomorrow. Kim was given time to tour the city and gardens. He had plenty of time to look at Singapore and let the question sink in, why can't this be North Korea?

Look at South Korea.

Also North Korea used to be known as “Jerusalem of the East” by Christian missionaries including members of Billy Graham’s family.

Here is more on the “Graham Family Legacy”

At the conclusion of her six-day visit in 1997, Mrs. Graham summarized her experience as one of the true highlights of her life. “Almost nothing remains from my school days here during the 1930s,” she said to her hosts. “But two things have not changed: the beauty of the two rivers that flow through the city of Pyongyang and the warmth and hospitality of the people.”

Ironically, what is now the North Korean capital city of Pyongyang was – a century earlier – such a hotbed of Christian activity that it was known as the 'Jerusalem of the East'. Though Christians remained a small minority of the overall North Korean population, Pyongyang was a different story, and at its high point, three out of 10 people there were practising Christians. More than 2,000 and possibly as many as 3,000 churches were built in the region. 'Crosses dotted the Pyongyang skyline' and downtown street preachers would shout, 'Believe in Jesus and go to heaven', as Hyun Sook Foley says in his article, 'The Jerusalem of the East', in Christian History magazine.

The Libya and Gaddafi thing was such a screw up. Why would anyone trust a word the U.S. says after that one? Gaddafi completely complied, was removed off the terrorist nation list by President Bush in 2004... and then look how he was rewarded seven years later.

I think that a big part of Trump's success in making big deals, is that he gets a solid understanding of what motivates the other side, so he can structure a deal that they want.

This is the chance of a lifetime for the North Koreans to come in from the cold. By always playing the dangerous crazy guy, they constantly risk getting themselves shot. Many serious folks thought that the best, and perhaps only, solution to the North Korean nuclear threat would be a pre-emptive decapitation or full scale strike. They had to worry constantly about the hammer dropping on them.

Now Trump offers them a one time amnesty, to get out from under all their past crimes, to freely travel the world and hobnob with the rich and glamorous. A fresh start. They don't have to be the ostracized monsters anymore, and they can get cut in on the pretty new things in the world.

I often thought that Kim Jong Un's sister Yo Jong, looked like little Wednesday from the Addams family, all grown up.

Maybe she will finally get to to come out of the shell of her dark and evil family upbringing, and finally let flower the sweet, playful little girl inside her - without having to constantly being absorbed coordinating the assassinations of regime and family members, or devising new ways to crack down on on those whose thinking deviates from the dictates of the Supreme Leader.

Maybe Yo Jong will get to go shopping in Paris, and buy something to wear with frills, maybe a nice Summery floral print. Maybe she will finally get something that is not just black.

Kim has a chance to go down as a truly great leader by embracing the West and helping his people achieve a superior life through self determination, at least nominally and perhaps, one reuniting with their natural families

Exactly.

Mr. Kim:
There are two possibilities for your people.

One is the continuance of living in the past and a barely agrarian society.

The other is prosperity they have never known and a nation of real agents of change, who continue to improve their lives and contribute to mankind world wide.

That's for sure. It's unfortunate that we're a totally different country while there is a Democrat administration, that's for sure.

Looking across the border at China, Kim can see it’s possible to have a robust capitalist economy while maintaining a “communist” one party dictatorship.
