The picture at the link has a woman front and center.

They also were undoubtedly the smartest, most cunning of warriors.

There's a joke there that I'm not going to touch.

What I will mention is the absolute tactical ineffectiveness of the French Resistance. Their value was in tying down German troops to prevent the potential for resistance action, rather than in any kind of effective fighting ability they projected.

291,557 U.S. men were KIA in WW II.

16 women were.

It may have started with Obama, but Trump and Mattis have not lifted a finger to reverse the policy. There are now 500 women serving in Marine and Army combat arms roles, and more on the way, as landnav, grenade quals, OCS pass/fail are removed.

Trump has been good mostly, overall, but he's been a Obama 2.0 dumpster fire when it comes to the military. And I will stand by that statement.

Of the 291, 573 KIAs in WW II 99.994% were men. (291,557 to 16)

I love how they ‘cherry-picked’ a few women’s true life’s history...

But none could be said to match the trailer where an one armed female frontline soldier kicked Nazi ass.

Not one of them could be considered “Frontline” soldiers.

Fantasy. Pure fantasy.

While women might not be suitable serving as standard infantry, some were highly effective as snipers in WWII, for example.

There are certainly cases where women can fill certain combat roles, and most men who serve alongside them, after overcoming their prejudices, see such women as an equal Sister in arms.

The world has changed...

Charles DeGaul said that after the war every Frenchy claimed they were in the resistance.

Then just make a game based on the WAACs, WAFs, WASPs and WAVES.

It wont involve combat, but I’m sure dome sort of gameplay could be invented? Maybe pretty boring, but whatever!

I'm going to start with the caveat that I have never served. I've only studied this topic a lot and been privileged to work with men who have served in combat.

"While women might not be suitable serving as standard infantry, some were highly effective as snipers in WWII, for example."

In the Red Army, who also used unarmed waves of human meat to literally absorb bullets until the Germans were out of ammunition. There was an instance of a German sniper methodically killing several dozen female snipers who had placed in trees and left to die, but hopefully slow up the Germans and inflict some casualties. Soviet tactics are hardly worth emulating.

Just to address the example given, snipers don't have it any easier than "standard infantry." They have to be able to move rapidly, carrying their heavy platforms and whatever they need to keep themselves alive and going for days on end separated from supply lines and support. Shooting in only part of it. Moving, while carrying your spotter who just got his hand and forearm shot off, is also part of it. Their is nothing to recommend women for this role. It isn't "prejudice" on the part of men who don't want to have women in their unit, it's common sense and experience with the reality of warfare. Stronger, faster, more testosterone, more bone density, more muscle mass -- these all things men possess compared against women. There is literally nothing about the female body, not one attribute, in which it has an advantage over the male body when it comes to fighting.

"I'm so glad there were no women in my unit. Women don't belong in combat. Simple as that." ~ Seth, Army Ranger.

"No woman could do what I did. Women don't belong in a combat unit, unless you want more people to get killed." ~ Steve, Army 13F, Purple Heart recipient.

"There is no way to bond with women the way you bond with other men in a combat environment. Even a female who theoretically meets physical requirements cannot mesh into the brotherhood of a fighting unit" ~ "Murph", USMC infantry assaultman

I could go on. The men quoted above have a pretty good idea of what they're talking about. One is married to a Coast Guard officer. There are roles for women in the military. Combat Arms is outside of that.

True, but a bullet fired by a female resistance fighter would kill a German as dead as one fired by a man.

Good point. Many women served in the French Resistance, for example, and knew how to handle a gun in guerilla situations.

Let's remember that modern warfare very rarely involves hand-to-hand combat. I'm aware that there are notable exceptions, but 99%+ of fatalities in WWII were not the result of hand-to-hand combat. And some of these women soldiers can probably carry heavier loads—and bear them farther—than I ever could...

You are a first class jerk! Obviously you are ignorant of the SOE and its many women volunteers who parachuted into countries to set up resistance, train groups, spy on the enemy and of the many who were assassinated and cremated at Ravensbruck. The Greek Resistance was active as well asthe F resistance in Norway, Denmark, Germany itself and many other countries, especially noteworthy was France. While the numbers of women were inferior to the numbers of front line troops, to marginalize or totally ignore their contribution to the victory is downright disgusting. You also discount as unimportant the women who built the airplanes, flew them to the airfields designated, worked in munitions plants and tended the ill and dying in hospitals, drove ambulances and worked in motor pools and camps throughout the world. MANY died.

It’s interesting how misogynists totally ignore the role women played in WW2 and the space program.

Many such comments are due to naked prejudice, and many such men change their minds after gaining respect for their Sisters in arms.

For instance, in the case of "No woman could do what I did", there were also doubtless many men who could not do what he did...

The Israelian Army was stronger for its women’s presence in combat.

‘You don’t have an argument’ is the laziest form of debate/persuasion.

The author is suggesting that a female used to advertise a game is somehow a validation of history. But this is a game ie fiction ie entertainment, not an empirical survey. And its target market is mostly male.

So yes it IS political correctness.
