Universities and other institutions are watering down requirements in order to attract more women and minorities.
Identity politics has engulfed the humanities and social sciences on American campuses; now it is taking over the hard sciences. The STEM fields—science, technology, engineering, and math—are under attack for being insufficiently “diverse.” The pressure to increase the representation of females, blacks, and Hispanics comes from the federal government, university administrators, and scientific societies themselves. That pressure is changing how science is taught and how scientific qualifications are evaluated. The results will be disastrous for scientific innovation and for American competitiveness.
A scientist at UCLA reports: “All across the country the big question now in STEM is: how can we promote more women and minorities by ‘changing’ (i.e., lowering) the requirements we had previously set for graduate level study?” Mathematical problem-solving is being deemphasized in favor of more qualitative group projects; the pace of undergraduate physics education is being slowed down so that no one gets left behind.

The purpose, ostensibly is to stop breeding them out of the gene pool. I don’t necessarily disagree. However there are many problems with this and I don’t think pressing individuals into those areas is useful. Perhaps someday they’ll develop a method to cherry pick the ones that will successful.
30 years working in various labs I never saw one black as an engineer and only 1 female hardware engineer. There were many women software engineers and many many women software coders who worked for software engineers. Hispanics have a fair representation while Chinese, Indian were over represented. does a very dark skinned Indian count as black?
At the El-Hi levels, standardized Science testing (and thus, ratings) have more emphasis on the verbal components. Moving the thinking from one side of the brain to the other.

Wouldn’t it be more appropriate to replace ‘watering down’ with ‘dumbing down’?
Seems to me if they dumb it down, they are just ripping off the student. An employer isn’t going hire someone that doesn’t have the skill set they need.

This is how leftists sabotage society. Foisting unqualified people for ‘fairness’ upon the population and pigeonholing bodies in all positions just by racist/sexist/ideological quotas.

Unfortunately our ideological adversaries don’t give a damn about facts.
The left is insane. They invented the term STEM and are using it as signal to indicate discrimination, and that women and low IQ people need to be affirmative actioned into STEM fields that they are not qualified for.
Just have white men define themselves as black females and this problem gets fixed.
I’ve worked with many woman software developers. Nearly all of them were mediocre. They could not produce anything from scratch. They also did a lot of cutting and pasting from other peoples code. No original work. Some of these woman were Chinese and Indian.
The best and smartest were white Russians and Jews.
