Democrats on edge in battle to replace Issa in California
The Hill ^ | 06/04/18 | Lisa Hagen

Democrats are locked in a battle to replace retiring Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), with no clear front-runner in what has become the most expensive House race in the country.

More than a dozen candidates from both parties are competing for the seat in California’s “jungle” primary on Tuesday, where the top two vote-getters, regardless of party affiliation, advance to the general election in the fall.

Issa, the outspoken former House Oversight and Government Reform Committee chairman, represents one of three GOP-held districts in the state where a split electorate could give Republicans a shot at advancing a pair of candidates to the November midterms.

That scenario is giving heartburn to Democrats, who once viewed Issa’s San Diego-area seat as a prime pickup opportunity in the fall. The district has long been a GOP stronghold but has shifted toward Democrats in recent years, with presidential candidate Hillary Clinton winning the area by 7 points in 2016.

“This race is a flip of a sideways coin,” one national Democratic strategist told The Hill. “Any of the five front-running candidates could get into the top two, which could mean two Republicans, two Democrats, or a Republican and a Democrat. I don’t think we know.”

Etc...

“The reality is if Republicans turn out in the same numbers as always and Democrats do the same, it’s extremely possible in all three races two Republicans advance,” said Jon Fleischman, a conservative blogger and former executive director of the California Republican Party.

In other areas of California, I have thought that a Republican should run as a “Conservative Democrat” and try to become one of the top two. Or better, yet, a conservative, with no paper trail or track record, run as a flaming liberal, get elected and then change parties and vote conservative. The worst that could happen is to get replaced after one term.

Its hard to get excited about Issa. He’s another fraud like Gowdy - talks big but nothing ever happens.

The only reason to vote for him is to maintain R control of the House. How sad that is.

BTW I don’t live in CA but I did donate to an R who is making a difference - Devin Nunes. Donate at

Your right we shouldn’t even bother voting because it will never make a difference right, that’s what I keep hearing from people that don’t live here........as if they didn’t have any problems in their states.

We have more Independents in the state of California than Rats and Pubbies.

There are a lot of folks that have left California and they reside here in the great state of Texas.

We know the Illegals are voting in California.

We need to stop the Illegal Invasion and we also need to stop this sanctuary state and city garbage in California.

Issa isn’t running....he retired this year, so what’s your point?

Members of congress have oversight responsibilities. Without an Attorney general, which we haven’t had for close to 10 years, congress becomes a toothless old dog! That’s why Goudy is leaving and sounding way more moderate. He’s looking for a US Attorney’s position in the DOJ.

The cancer of commies has forced his hand. He sees this illegal invasion has cost him. WAKE UP this what your offspring will have to deal with. Are you willing to fight for them?

My two cents....Every Republican, Conservative, Independent, Blue Dog Democrat voter in California should cast their votes today for John Cox, the Republican candidate running for Governor of California. Gavin Newsome, the Democrat Party progressive, left wing, Communist will further destroy the once great state of California with his nutcase ideas, mantras & program agendas.

Yep, no more California, Dreaming, no more Beach Boys music, no more California Girls, no more McDonnell-Douglas, No more, Boeing, no more “Drag Racing”, no more Aerospace Companies, just The Googles, etc., of this insane world, the electronic Democrat low life Party, Big Brother that will control you and your every move. California voters...all of you, up wake and get into the real world..not the world of druggies and homeless peeing & sleeping in the San Francisco & Los Angeles streets!!!

Do the impossible today. Vote for John Cox and help & assist Cox to come in first and win the California Governor primary election...”Do It”!!!

Partner, we know what it takes to stop the Illegal Alien Invasion yet the U.S. Congress takes it very lightly.

We need a Solid Southern Border Wall from San Diego, California to El Paso, Texas. Then we need to build the wall from El Paso, Texas to Brownsville, Texas. We probably do not need a wall around the Big Bend area since its canyons along the Rio Grande provide that wall.

So far we are hearing crickets with that Paul Ryno and Mitch McConJob as the so called leaders in Congress. They are a complete joke and they have their heads up their posteriors.

This is one of the main reasons that we elected a builder as our POTUS and that is President Trump and he needs to get the $$$ from our pathetic Congress to get the job done once and for all.

It is amazing that Ronald Reagan was elected as our POTUS and he comes from the state of California.

California is run by the extreme hateful liberal left wing of the Rat Party.

Honestly, there is no hope for California until it gets really bad. It may be too late then.

We have a lot of folks from California moving to our Great State of Texas since they can sell their homes over there and they will buy nice homes here in our state and get a very good job.

Texas does not have a State Income Tax system and I hope they never pass this Bravo Sierra stuff in Austin.

Partner, I was a fan of both Issa and Gowdy and they have sold themselves out like Judas. What a joke they are and I am glad that they are leaving Congress. They may as well vote with the Rat party since they both are Rinos! I lost all faith in Trey Gowdy when he said that Paul Ryno should be the Speaker of the People's House.
