Riding in a motorcade in Lima, Peru, shortly after the 2016 election, President Barack Obama was struggling to understand Donald J. Trumps victory.
What if we were wrong? he asked aides riding with him in the armored presidential limousine.
He had read a column asserting that liberals had forgotten how important identity was to people and had promoted an empty cosmopolitan globalism that made many feel left behind. Maybe we pushed too far, Mr. Obama said. Maybe people just want to fall back into their tribe.
Mr. Rhodes describes the reaction of foreign leaders. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan apologized for breaching protocol by meeting with Mr. Trump at Trump Tower in Manhattan after the election. Mr. Obama urged Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada to take on a more vocal role defending the values they shared.
Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany told Mr. Obama that she felt more obliged to run for another term because of Mr. Trumps election to defend the liberal international order. When they parted for the final time, Ms. Merkel had a single tear in her eye. Shes all alone, Mr. Obama noted.

Ahhhh. The unbelievers.
God was and is and is to come. They forgot.
The Kenyanesian Usurpation was wrong in so many ways.
Pure foreign collusion! Arrest the SOB.
None of this happened. Not one thing described above actually happened.
“Fall back into thier tribe”, thats rich coming from this guy, all he is about is tribalism, and keeping them at each others throats.
We out voted a mountain of fraud.
even his admission that he was wrong was supercilious nonsense.
Isn’t this the guy who knows more about everything than everyone around him? I can’t even imagine him having a conversation where he thought he might be wrong.
It does sound mighty contrived.
Fall back to their tribe? No, people were just sick of socialist token morons running the country.
Obama’s legacy has been erased.
They’re still shaken by the November 8, 2016 outcome.
Given Obama’s consummate arrogance towards anyone else’s opinion but his own, this comment sounds less and less like a real “Whoa, what if we were wrong?” and more like “What is it with these uneducated knaves who can’t see what I’m really trying to do for them?”
If he even felt the former, it was for a brief second or two - and then he went along on his merry way.
I do not believe one damn word of this article from the New York Times.
“What if we get caught?”
Obama is deluded fool at best.
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww poor Commies..let me help you wipe those tears
