I never said it was “OK”. If they too want to be cowards, it’s their choice. I could care less about any of the ‘wannabes”.

TO LATE, TOTAL BAN IN THIS RETIRED MILITARY HOUSEHOLD. Hubby is a Sports Nut, but if he turns that crap on I told him I’d turn it off. He served 20 yrs in the Navy, we have a dozen or more deceased family Service members buried under our Flag. He just buried his 91 yr old WW2 Brother 6 months ago. We still have men serving today in the family.

That’s the way it’s always been in college ball. Nothing political or racial about it.

Sorry, it was a general question to the board, not you personally.

Don’t you think they should show respect to the country and the taxpayers for funding their team? Regardless of the reason it’s still disrespectful.

Why have NFL cheerleaders at all?

That's simple. The sports themselves have become so dull that the teams feel a need to keep their live audiences entertained constantly.

Major sports have become so heavily oriented towards television audiences that they have large blocks of "dead" time when TV commercials are being shown and there is literally nothing going on at the stadium. If you haven't been to an NFL game for a while and you can stomach the idea of going to one next season, just sit there and notice how boring the whole affair actually is.

You'll notice that baseball teams don't have cheerleaders. That's because the game is already played at a leisurely pace and has "natural" breaks built into it with changes of innings, etc. They don't need to entertain their fans with cheerleaders because nobody goes to a baseball game in search of constant "action" on the field.

No one forces a woman to be an NFL cheerleader. The appearances outside the football games are part of the job. If they don’t like it, they need to find another job.

Cal Thomas has one major flaw in his reasoning here. This isn't just a normal employer rights vs. employee rights issue that would be easy to resolve based on the principle of who gets to set the rules.

The NFL and its players are governed by a collective bargaining agreement (CBA), and these things have to be addressed in a way that fits the CBA. What has happened here is that the NFL has established very meticulous rules about player behavior on the field during a game -- what they can wear, etc. in the CBA. The problem is that the CBA apparently has a giant loophole that doesn't establish any rules of player conduct during the national anthem.

The CBA may give the NFL the power to impose these behavior standards as part of a rule change. I suspect this was why the NFL didn't do anything last year: they probably can't impose a rule change during the season. So now the NFL is trying to do this through an off-season rule change before the 2018 season begins.

Aside from the idiocy of the matter at hand, the whole dispute is silly because it really is just temporary. This nonsense is absolutely going to be addressed in the next CBA when the current one expires (in 2020, I think). I can guarantee you that protecting right of a player to act like an @sshole during the national anthem is one of the first things the NFL Players Association is going to bargain away when that time comes.

While I agree with the message of the post, it will not happen for one reason; Money.

The NFL did not decide to require players to stand and respect our country because it was the right thing to do. Last year, the NFL defended the players’ actions stating that the “free speech” of the players was defensible. The only reason that the NFL changed their outlook is because fans quit watching and attending games.

I'm sorry, but the NFL did this for exactly the right reason if they did it because of money. All I really expected from the NFL was to act as a concerned business entity about my and other paying fans' concerns about the "NFL experience".

By the way, I do not believe for one moment that I go to or watch an NFL game as some kind of patriotic exercise. So it could be said that I spectate for the wrong reasons.

When you win you must also "receive" the win. I am glad for the NFL's change in policy, especially since it is because of people like me and the other boycotting customers who weren't interested in spending their sports dollars to endure being "protested".

I wonder if these idiot players ever think of what they will do if they get fired for not following the rules of the company. They could never earn that kind of money outside the NFL. Seems like common sense to just follow the rules.

This has no bearing on the true intentions, feelings, and thoughts of the African klan pigs that disregard of our true heroes, the founders of the greatest country on the planet, and a patriotic, mostly white fan base. Never will I attend or watch another game.

Don’t you realize the compromise between NFL and players assn. will funnel $90 million into social justice efforts? That means almost every commercial or ad during games will focus on the ugly Americans oppressing those poor minorities.

If your university accepts federal money, I don’t care what is usually done. Get your ass out on the field, remove your helmet or headset and show some respect to the country, or return the taxpayer’s money, with interest.

I wish colleges and universities would quit with offering athletic scholarships to students that haven’t been accepted yet. Make them get into college on their own. There is plenty of grant and loan money for anyone that can get accepted. Let them be real STUDENT-athletes. Let the students play the game instead of making celebrities out of a lot of idiots that never gave much attention to academics.

It would be better for everyone. A lot of kids hoping for a scholarship one day would have to focus on getting into good colleges. If they don’t, they don’t get to play.

College athletics is such a lie. These institutions weren’t built to play sports. Sports should be a sideline event.

I don’t know if that money has to be spent during the games...but regardless, they’re toast.

Cheerleaders are paid by sales of franchise merchandise - not by the sport teams.
I believe the cheerleader organizations have to pay the sport teams a fee to use their colors/logos/stadium. (An old friends daughter was a cheerleader for the Buffalo NFL team)
There is a lot of work and pressure for the cheerleaders to put up with.
