Three can be a charm. China is close. Singapore is far away.

Fear of a coup alright, to the point of sending out a chem weapons team to kill his brother, just a few clicks up the road of Singapore.

I’d be worried if I were him, particularly about a well trained NK defector who just might get through the security perimeter in Sing and “settle the score” with that little stinker once and for all.

FACE is vital to East Asians, therefore every day that Kim “makes Trump worry” is a day that brings ALL Koreans closer to putting the past behind them.

It’s just theater..

If Mr Slimkim is so concerned about a mil coup, he should use an aa gun on his officers, from Lt through 20 star general. All of them.

He had two visits to China in recent months and didn’t seem to be sweating a coup during those. I think this is disinformation from someone.

Agree. The fear thing is overblown.

And if Kim leaves the meeting with a package of generous economic incentives from the U.S. doesn’t this put him in a stronger position back home?

This is probably what Xi was telling him, how easy it would be for the PLA to do this.

If the military is planning a coup then they can do it regardless of whether Kim is in Beijing or Singapore. All they need is him out of the country.

Because the coup would be aided/orchestrated by the Chinese communists.

It was most likely at the most recent meeting where the teeth told the lips just how easy it would be.

Being stranded in China is different from being so in Singapore. He would be really isolated and have real trouble getting back in, which is not the case if he is in China.

Starving cattle can only be kept in check for so long until they break out and stampede. And which direction they go is unknown. The major problem with it is that a renegade group of people we have no control or threat over will have their finger on the button that could kill millions and they have just proven they have nothing to lose by charging Kim.

I’ve never feared countries with nuclear capacity that were intelligent enough to understand the ramifications of launching. But if they are hungry enough to charge Kim with pitchforks, they no longer qualify for that. And where does it stop when they still don’t have enough food to go around. And are we going to have to get back into a North Korean conflict because of our treaty with South Korea? We will if they launch, big time. And again, what do they have to lose?

Then it would seem to me that the timing would be better with Kim in Beijing. That way they have Kim on their own turf and they can detain him themselves.

Kim doesn't care about the average North Korean. His lifestyle, and that of his major supporters, is already quite comfortable. He wants his nukes. He's not going to give those up, and I would hope that Trump wouldn't give him those generous economic incentives without Kim doing so.

If the military takes over then Kim isn't going back, regardless of where he happens to be. He'd be dead meat if he tried.
