Commemorative ‘Peace Talks’ coin struck for Trump-Kim summit

WASHINGTON – A commemorative coin featuring U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un has been struck by the White House Communications Agency ahead of their planned summit next month.

The coin depicts Trump and Kim, described as North Korea’s “Supreme Leader,” in profile facing each other in front of a background of U.S. and North Korean flags.

The words “Peace Talks” are emblazoned at the top of the front of the coin with the date “2018” beneath.

The back of the coin features a picture of the White House, Air Force One and the Seal of the President of the United States.

Trump is scheduled to hold a landmark summit with the North Korean leader in Singapore on June 12, but Pyongyang has recently threatened to pull out over U.S. demands for “unilateral nuclear abandonment.”

This also sends a message to Kim that he is honoring Kim. (saving face).

If you look closer, it features skin folds on the back of Kim's neck due to his obesity. They do pay attention to details.

Apparently the WhiteHouse doesn’t have anything to do with the design etc. This is done more often than I realized. I do like the idea.

I see the Foreign Press has arrived in N.Korea for the nuclear site dismantling this week......Kim charged them each 10 Grand for their visa’s!

The trip reportedly costs 30 grands per person. Talking about a rip-off. Some other reports said that no experts were invited to watch the event. If true, they only invited those with no knowledge on nuclear matters.

This reminds me of the scene in the TV series The Tudorsal when king Henry was showing Charles the special coin he has made to commemorate a special occasion. Charles responded “I need to make one for the next time my wife makes love to me, as rare a thing that is!”

I’m sure that there were/are plenty of folks in D.C. that think we shouldn’t honor Kim with a coin.

I can just hear Trump. “Yeah - so what. It’s his and my mugs on a chunk of metal. The important thing is that we sit down and come to an agreement on him getting rid of the nukes. Oh - and I want a cake too at the end to celebrate in the shape of our countries. And ice sculptures of us.”

(How many months did it take to figure out the shape of the table for the Vietnam War Paris Peace talks?)
