Former President Jimmy Carter, who said he is still an evangelical, called on all Christians to come together in his Liberty University commencement address Saturday in Virginia. He also identified the killings and abortions of 160 million girls around the world today as one of the greatest injustices facing humanity.
Carter, the 39th President, jumped through various talking points in his address at the major Christian university, and focused some of the most pressing human rights issues in the world today that he said Christians should be involved in.
He spoke of countries like China and others where male infants are greatly preferred over females due to economic opportunities, and noted that 160 million girls are not alive today because their parents "either kill their daughters by strangling them at birth," or they decide to abort them when finding out that the fetus is female.
Carter also condemned human trafficking and sexual assault, which he pointed out is a devastating problem in several South East Asia nations. At the same time, he noted that in the U.S. military itself, which he called "one of the finest organizations on earth," 16,000 cases of sexual abuse are reported every year.
As an evangelical and Southern Baptist who still teaches Sunday school, he urged Christians from all denominations to come together and focus on the things that unite them, rather than drive them apart.
But he approves of abortion for other reasons?
Carter is about as relevant as John McCain will be in two years.
The man failed to have his head surgically removed post 1980.
He talks a lot of “S”, but hardly anyone hears it.
Abortion is wrong whenever it takes place Jimmy.
I am surprised he did not say that more boys should be killed so that the killings are equal in number gender wise.
“But he approves of abortion for other reasons?”
Yeah, that was my impression as well.
Tough talk right before you die.
Probably some rabbit frightened him into saying this.
Do you mean Jimmy “Whichever Way the Wind Blows” Carter?
“Tough talk right before you die.
Probably some rabbit frightened him into saying this.”
Ace’s speechwriters tossed one over the wall for Operation Eagle Claw’s blunderer-in-chief.
Yeah, that was my impression as well.
Particularly the racial reasons. You know, to get rid of the defectives and human weeds.
I cannot fathom WHY Jerry Falwell Jr invited this man to speak?
Hey Jimmy! Your life expediency is about 4 days, why not do the right thing and condemn abortion, period? I wouldn’t want to carry that nonsense to the other side, but then again I’m not a Democrat.
There are a heck of a lot of couples out there who seem to have been "lucky" in having one boy and one girl in two tries.
That was my very first thought! He may still be teaching Sunday School. . .the questions is just what is he teaching.
Well we finally know where Carter is willing to draw the line on murdering the unborn child.
I was watching some news program at 2:00 this morning where they were discussing the fact that US births have been drastically down.
They then talked about why that might be, and named a couple of reasons such as women wanting to have a career. Then they blamed it on the cost of raising one child (something like $250,000).
They never once mentioned abortion, but they did manage to tie in a quick sentence about SS funding running out by 2035.
This is surreal. A radical leftist Democrat (they all are) speaking at Liberty? Who made this decision?
Jimmy, it’s: in for a penny, in for a pound.
There is no acceptable idol of Molech. Only a murder engine used on innocent children.
He is a former US president and while much maligned, he has done more as one than we can say for the others. Even if we might on agree on some issues, his heart is in the right place and he’s a nice guy. On those basis, he’s ahead of Obama, Bush Jr., and Clinton.
