Again, I’m not claiming that in the scheme of things, the demise of the USSR was a bad thing. I’m asserting that, from the perspective of Russian citizens/patriots (of which Putin is one), it really sucked.

That would be an act ofwar and an invitation to lose all of Kiev

Ukraine lacks the wherewithall to defeat Russia in a real war.

It sucked a lot more for the 30-40 million murdered by the Soviets.

I wonder, have you ever been to/spent any time in Russia? Have you socialized with RF citizens (not necessarily "Russians"...Armenians, Ukrainians, Uzbeks, Tajiks also count) who aren't politically active or somehow disgruntled? Are you aware that 99% of the "dissent" in Russia that isn't about corruption (a topic for another day entirely) is essentially pushing the "modern" liberal BS that we are fighting against in our country?

I've lived in Russia (Krasnodar, not Moscow, in case you are wondering) for just about a year now, and before that, I visited just about yearly since 2009. While I have distant Slavic blood, I was born in the USA and didn't speak a word of Russian before 2009.

What I see here is a country in continuous improvement since Putin took the helm. I see a society with unlimited potential. Hell, government messes with our life here WAY less than back home in PA/NJ. If you are smart in Russia, you can do anything.

On top of that, you can send your kids to school here and count on the fact that not only will they receive an education, but they definitely will not be indoctrinated into socialism, liberalism, and the homosexual agenda.

ETL, I'm trying to be civil in this conversation, and you keep reverting to nastiness. I'm challenging your cold-war-cliche-laden assertions with actual, feet-on-the-ground observations, and all you can do is throw insults.

It is pretty obvious that a) you haven't spent much (if any) time in Russia, b) you don't get out of the USA much in general (so you don't really have any good point of reference for a foreign society), and c) you have such a tremendous irrational bias and hate against Russia/Russians that I don't think anyone can really help you.

Here's your champ sounding and acting like pedofile Michael Jackson.

"In the footage, Putin, 53, is shown walking up to a small crowd of tourists in a Kremlin courtyard and crouching down in front of the boy, who appears to be five or six years old.

As the Russian president talks with Nikita for several seconds, he tugs at the boy's shirt before finally lifting it up and kissing him on his bare stomach.

"He seemed to me very independent, very serious, but at the same time a boy is always vulnerable. He was very sweet.

I'll be honest: I felt an urge to squeeze him like a kitten, and that led to the gesture that I made. There was nothing behind it really," Putin said, smiling."

Russia is a tin pot country now. Completely devoid of much of an economy and isolated internationally due to its own foreign policy course.

Sanctions for numerous things - from killing citizens and former citizens to illegally annexing territory.

Most of its former Warsaw Pact sphere is either running away from Russia or trying to join NATO.

Putin has failed on multiple levels.
