A 17-year-old student armed with a shotgun and pistol has opened fire in a Texas high school, killing nine fellow students and a teacher, authorities say, in an attack similar to the massacre at a Florida high school in February.
Students said the gunman, identified by authorities as Dimitrios Pagourtzis, first opened fire in an art class at Santa Fe High School shortly before 8:00am on Friday.
Students and staff fled after seeing classmates injured and a fire alarm triggered a full evacuation.
Mr Pagourtzis, was denied bail after he was charged with capital murder and aggravated assault on a public servant.
The suspected shooter also had explosive devices that were found in the school and nearby, said Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who called the assault "one of the most heinous attacks that we've ever seen in the history of Texas schools".

By the end of next week, we will find out that he was another kid on antidepressants or mood-drugs. Virtually every single one of the teenagers who gone this route...had prescription drugs.
2. Dogs that are able to detect guns/ammunition/bombs. Also dogs that can "sniff out drugs". It should also be a goal to make our schools DRUG FREE. Some Middle Schools (at one time called "Junior Highs") are "at risk" for such violence such as guns at schools. They should also have Metal Detectors. The movie "Pay it Forward" had such a metal detector shown. 1. Require all High Schools to have METAL DETECTORS. This would be partially funded by the Federal Gov't (under the Education Bill) and be a requirement for obtaining Federal Funds for Education ("No Child Left Behind" is an example of what Public Schools are required to do to receive Federal Funds.) States and Local School Districts would be required to have this in place (by some future date).
Unfortunately, Louisiana is headed in the wrong direction. Clear backpacks should be required.
Louisiana just passed a bill for bulletproof backpacks (which not be clear).
I’ve read that the handgun was a 38 special, which isn’t a pistol. Not that we should expect the media to get anything right about guns.

The shooter is the only one to blame.
The mainstream media is totally burying the fact that a horrible, awful, David Hogg hates ‘em ASSAULT RIFLE **wasn’t** used and had nothing to do with it?

Because of the constipated "justice" system, it is often year upon year before even a trial is held and a verdict rendered. And then months pile up before sentence is passed. And then appeals, and on and on. Justice is not served in any way. It is an illusion.
A swift trial and speedy public execution would shock even hardened criminals. A real hanging is not pretty. A quick drop and neck snap, with the perp twisting and swaying in the wind. Sometimes the hanging corpse twists around like a child's top and then unwinds and spins back, repeated several times. The big tough guy doesn't look so tough anymore.
And then all is still. And he remains still forever.
Yes a great number of these people that commit the heinous crimes are on prescription drugs for depression. The drugs did not make them do these horrible acts. They were on the drugs because they were totally f up mentally. In fact these drugs may have prevented acts of terror in many.
In the past before liberalism became a fashion we just locked up people like this in mental institutions were they belonged.

Not sure I like the hanging part but indeed, this guy should be tried and executed within one week maximum in a normal justice system. Instead, he will benefit a travesty of justice, maximum media coverage and years of fame that will inspire other scums to do the same.
The system is getting out of control because instead of rooting out the real causes, fingers are always pointed to the boogeyman, guns.

The authorities have taken prayer out of school. Society demonizes Christianity. The hearts of men have grown cold and hardened. What did they think would happen? They know. They’re evil to the core and they want to take everyone with them to hell.
Then why ore there no mass shootings in which the perpetrator(s) were not primed with psychoactive drugs?
Why were there no such shootings before the release of psychotropic drugs to deal with abnormal behaviors?
