Alleged shooter at Texas high school spared people he liked, court document says

The teenager who allegedly used a shotgun and a revolver to kill 10 people and wound 10 others at a Texas high school Friday admitted he didn't shoot people he liked and meant to kill the ones he did target, a probable cause affidavit says.

Suspect Dimitrios Pagourtzis, 17, has cooperated with police, said Galveston County Magistrate Mark Henry said. Henry denied bail for the student, who is accused of capital murder of multiple people and aggravated assault on a public servant.

Students at Santa Fe High School, not far from Houston in southeastern Texas, scrambled for safety after they heard shots just after class began Friday morning. Nine students and one teacher were killed, a law enforcement official told CNN.

Pagourtzis said little during a video court appearance, answering "Yes, sir" when asked whether he wanted a court-appointed attorney. He was not asked to enter a plea.

The probable cause affidavit says he told an investigator he spared people he liked because he wanted his story told.

The alleged shooter used a shotgun and a .38 revolver that were legally owned by his father, Gov. Greg Abbott told reporters. Two school resource officers were on the campus and confronted the shooter "early on in the process," Abbott said.

“He wanted his story told”

And therein lies the problem. The media is eager to tell the story, and it encourages other losers.

The father is partly to blame for not securing his guns, just like a pitbull owner who does not secure his dogs.

“He wanted his story told”

I recall a poll of high school students a few years back which asked them what they wanted out of life if they could have anything. The number one answer wasn't love, education, a career, or money.

It was being famous.

No, I won’t agree with your statement. Where there a will, there a way.

Well, if (as is almost certainly the case) it's a double action, it does fire as fast as you can pull the trigger...therefore, the gun grabbers want to ban it.

Let’s do away with the Bill of Rights and disarm the entire population so we can keep on mainstreaming psycho students.

Imho, every one of these pathetic imbeciles should NEVER have their names or photos shown in any print or electronic media.
Instead, there ought to be a photo of a DOG CRAP posted, with “Another pathetic self absorbed individual seeking fame, killed innocents. The family (if any) is clueless. Herein lies the problem. The death of the family unit, fostered by the RAT party is the source of that problem.”

Apologies in advance to all dogs !

I’ll also disagree. Could be dad taught him to help defend the house as I did my girls at a younger age then this. I’ll wager odds he was bullied for years. quiet kept to himself. likely on anti-depressants...if his parents took him to a shrink.

Revenge/vengence is a powerful motivation...if that was the case.

School shootings really took off in the 1990s with the advent of the Internet. I really feel a lot of the motivation for these events in the individual wanting the media attention and widespread notoriety.

Makes a lot more sense than bleating about "guns," as though America didn't have plenty in the 1950s, 1960s, etc., when this, you know, wasn't happening.

"The father is partly to blame for not securing his guns, just like a pitbull owner who does not secure his dogs."

No he is not. A civil society can never hold one individual responsible for the actions of others. Is it good practice to keep firearms secure? absolutely. But lets just say the father did keep the guns secured in a safe and the seventeen year old was unable to get to them. So the seventeen year old bent on murder takes dads keys to his ford F350 Super Duty and goes to a public event and mows over 50 people. Do we hold the father responsible because he didn't lock up his keys? What if the kid just went to kitchen and grabbed the chefs knife, went to school and stabbed 22 people to death? Do we arrest the parents for not securing their kitchen knives. How about your power tools and gasoline? do you have those secured?

Forcing the owner of a firearm into liability for limiting access will render the 2nd amendment worthless just as gun bans. Conservatives jumping on this bandwagon are being absolutely foolish. Wake up.

1). This never happened. Schools are GUN FREE ZONES and therefore this could not have happened. Because schools are gun free. Because the signs said so.

2). An “assault rifle” wasn’t used, so it doesn’t fit the David Hogg narrative. And that means it COULDN’T have happened.

Nothing to see here. ya looky-loos.

You are correct.

Anyone wanting to lay liability on gun owners who choose not to purchase an expensive, heavy safe, is no friend of the 2A.
