Cuomo has been and is full of his own power and self. Everything he does is to expand and grow that.

OK so a metal detector and an armed guard.

Given the governments fire codes that require emergency doors that can easily be propped open ahead of time, having" a big tough looking guard at the door" can and will be circumvented.

Our high schools are far too big. No one can keep up with more than 500-600 teenagers

And a troubled teen can and does get lost in the system.

Too easy to pass off this kid as somebody';s else's problem.

Too easy to blame the guns, music or video games.

“No, it’s time to arm the teachers and students.”

I was with ya until you said “students.”

Yes, marksmanship classes are good but the thought of armed kids roaming the hallways will just turn off the “mini van moms”.

Has the left begun their screeching on “gun control” yet?

One door in one door out. Metal detectors and a guard. It makes a statement that you are not going to easily be able to wreak havoc. Most of these crazy kids shoot up the school because it’s easy.

Sounds great if you wish to ignore Fire codes, and essential run the place like a prison.

And the costs, Each guard will be unionized and sit on their asses much of the day.(See Parkland, for an example)

In my opinion it's better to have smaller schools(yes more money) with a few 'Resource Officers who the shooter would have to account for and NOT know where he/she would be.

To easy to go though an unlocked/unsecured door and start shooting

I'm open for a few properly trained AND willing teachers to conceal carry in the classrooms.

Look the schools that have metal detectors and armed guards are not having these problems so it pretty much works. Nothing is perfect but it would be a major deterrent.

.
Armed people are “perfect.” Check the crime rate in Kennesaw, and then check the rate in Chicago and NY City.

Requiring a concealed carry permit before granting a teaching credential, and ending gun prohibition in schools will end this nonsense.

I’m surprised at the talk at some of the local coffee shops.

People are angry, just like some who stayed up too late and were shaken awake before sunrise.

Better yet, these are middle aged action oriented people.

On top of that, they’re rednecks who voted for Trump.

I had coffee with an Oregon state legislator this morning and he is very stirred up. And he’s not a run of the mill all talk and no cattle (To mix metaphors and slide in the fact that most political talk is pure bullshit).

The public schools are seen as incompetent time and money wasters. Some of you might be surprised at the hostility to the teachers union more and more common folk have.

I think that you, 1Old Pro, are the spearpoint of what will come to be.

This was certainly planned. They are saying there are explosive devices in and around the school.

So, I will ask the obvious question; I have not really heard the answer yet...

How WAS he stopped?

Caught your observation.

The only one that’s been openly attacking education is Mike Rowe.

He doesn’t even get an argument about it from Liberals. Cornell West just sat there in rapt attention.

It was on that horrible HBO show with the liberals on it. Can’t remember the name.

The NEA requires dismantlement. DeVos is quietly working on it.

Here are a few simple ideas. First: kiInstitute a dress code. Girls don’t wear shorts. Boys wear socks and tuck their shirttails in their pants. And nobody wears freaking trench coats. Instill some discipline and teach them school is a place they’re required to go and there are rules.

Second: Teach kids self defense instead of running and hiding. If the gun is pointed in your direction, run like hell. But if the shooter is close and you’re behind him or beside him and not pointing the gun at you... Attack?

Was driving most of the day listening on talk radio. Praying for all those families, the kids, the responders, the town and our state.

Prayers are sincere but this is Texas by God. It’s past time to arm teachers. If they’re too leftist to carry do we really want them teaching our kids anyway.

Prayers continue, first priority!

(I am a former teacher. There is nothing threatening to all good students by a trained armed teacher. Students pass me in WalMart and don’t know the difference)

Indeed you are precisely on target with your comment. I would further add that the leftist nature of the teaching profession is a large part of the problem leading up to the school terrorism. Don’t get me wrong about a sweeping generalization of teachers, I tried teaching a few years. The leftists drove me back to the world of rational folks. A teacher IMO should value those children enough to want to educate themself on firearm safety and protect those kids just like the parents would. I know I’m opening a huge can of worms, teachers will say they are overworked, underpaid, afraid of guns, blah blah... Either kids are worth protecting or they’re not. They socialist education system needs to figure it out or be replaced. Yes, big talk. But our president made a lot of big talk in his campaign speeches that people thought could not be done and he is slowly accomplishing these things.

I’m sorry for my rant, it’s not directed at you. I just listened to this story thru 4 hours in my car today, I’m a grandmother with grandbabies in public schools and just wired up. My teaching/mothering experience tells me I need to call more Congress critters, write more letters and make a difference.

“They” don’t care about our thoughts and prayers. “They”also don’t care about our gun rights. As long as “they” can spew “their” garbage and have access to abortions, “they” are good. Sad dang news day for sure.

It’s not about arming all teachers ...

It’s about allowing the teachers that want to be armed to do so ...

True statement you make. The Wikipedia list you attached isn’t even comprehensive as I am aware of one other school shooting in which I grew up knowing the perpetrator. The lefties are using an old thing as if it were brand new.

All heartbreaking to families. But it hasn’t emerged due to the 2nd amendment suddenly turning bad. We need to address protecting our kids from evil people, no tool is evil.

I completely agree with your point.

I’m just also adding that I question what doctrine a teacher who doesn’t want to learn to carry is teaching our young people. If they are choosing not to carry due to leftist ideals, quite frankly I don’t want them teaching in public schools. We live in a Capitalist nation. Public school should teach capitalism with a side of socialism, explaining why we choose another system. Of course that involves actually teaching the Constitution, government and history classes that are factual, not some SJW mess.

(Husband and I just agreed to disagree on this)

Hubby has pointed out there are good people who just don’t like guns, handicapped people who may have a disability preventing gun use. I get all that. I’ve just got a soapbox about socialism in public school.

And today is not the day to gripe about the issue, this is a day to pray and mourn with those devastated families.

Sorry, I think I got on my soapbox and was genrally rambling and unclear. My prayers are for those who have lost children/family members/dear friends. I guess I pray for those lefties too most days but it sounds more like “God just take em out.”

Pray for my grandkids every day about their schools. No parent or grandparent should experience what those families have today. My guess is they are a mix of political views and none of em give a crap about politics today. Probably the conservative ones at some time will feel and appreciate the prayers. Can’t imagine and never want to know a day like that, but being without God in the situation is a preview of the real hell.
