And for the proof of this, look no further than the fact these Circuit nominees of Trump's are being confirmed at a record pace even in the face of unprecedented obstruction, and refusing to take a vote on Obama's nominee to replace Justice Scalia and instead allowing us to have Trump's nominee of Gorsuch be there instead of the Court flipping to the far left.

I’d love to see him cement four or five young conservative jurists onto the bench in the Supreme Court. While we have a couple of solid conservatives there, they are older. I’d like to see Trump put on younger ones now. Then in the event of a commie president again, the supreme court would be solid conservative with years to go. If the older one stay on there now and die during a commie president reign, we would lose the court and forever. It is like a ball team, move the older players along into retirement and put in younger ones. Mr. Trump could ask our older ones to retire so he could replace the court’s older ones now.
Generally not. However, with the Senate recently confirming a nominee despite no "blue skip", the Democrats may have felt that it was better to concede on some of these rather than risk the complete elimination of blue slip holds.
In other words, they may have given consent in these cases to try to preserve the idea that their consent still matters. Better than fighting the same battle and losing again.

A little background. I am in my 50’s and remember the Reagan era. The first 6 years, the Republicans controlled the Senate (January 1981 to January 1987). The Democrats controlled the Senate from then on. Kennedy was nominated to replace Justice Powell who was a Nixon appointee and was more Conservative the most of the Warren and Burger courts but seen as someone who as similar to Kennedy. So when Reagan nominated Kennedy, I think he was the 3rd nominee and the one that could get enough Dems to confirm (he was confirmed early in 1988). One of them was Judge Robert Bork. So in hindsight, better to get a Reagan Kennedy that a George Bush Judge Sutter, who of course waited to retire when Obama was president and Judge Sotomayer was his replacement.
So in total, Kennedy moved the court away from the Warren and Burger activist domination of previous years. Hopefully, he will retire with Trump in office and Trump can nominate his replacement.

He really was lazy, as a matter of personal routine - below average for Presidents. In comparison, Trump has an exceptionally wide bandwidth for activity. He is able to keep so many big things progressing at the same time. He may be the most energetic US President ever. Maybe second to coffee fiend Teddy Roosevelt.
A few presidents, like Washington and Reagan, were renown for their excellent ability to pick talent, and let them run agencies. Trump picks talent, but then drives them to perform in overdrive. He holds people’s feet to the fire, in most every meeting. He sets aggressive goals and tracks them. And he has an uncanny ability to do this at a non-stop fast pace, over many broad and diverse topics at the same time. He is a Fortune 500 class manager, with a huge capacity like a supernova.
In comparison to focus and drive that Trump brings to his administration, Obama himself brought dithering and drift. It fell to staff to organize and drive their agenda. Obama himself was more of a front man to give the public speeches, who otherwise spent a lot of time lavishing in the perks and celebrity.

I saw the White House Counsel address CPAC this year on their approach to judicial appointments.
He indicated that they are strategically selecting nominees, and that their guiding objective is to develop a judiciary that will serve as a check on, or will systematically roll back, the powers of the administrative State. That was the key feature of Gorsuch’s career, that made him their pick.
Hopefully, they are able to maintain their strategic momentum, while adopting new tactical approaches.
I expect that next year, Republicans will have a greater majority in the Senate. In the outside chance that the Republicans get 60 in the Senate, a new approach might be in order.

What seems clear is that Supreme Court appointments are a crap shoot.
The McConnell-hatred and Ryan-hatred runs strong here. Those consumed with this Hatred are generally ignorant of what the leadership actually does and certainly clueless wrt the procedures of running bodies with a 271 year-old history. And handling 100 and 435 egos well enough to get anything done is no small task.
These positions are not generally sought because of the work involved. One side votes unanimously while our side splits the Republican vote for any number of reasons. This makes the jobs even more difficult.
