Late night comedian Jimmy Kimmel has noticed something.
Anti-Trump jokes go over like a lead balloon with people who matter to Hollywood: the audience. And Kimmel admits the audience is sick of this tired routine. A jackass has just woke up and smelled the coffee.
DEADLINE: Having missed last year, this will actually be your first upfronts of the Trump Era. Having you been saving up a barrelful of barbs for the President and his ongoing big show?
KIMMEL: Oh, wow. Yeah, you know, I hadn’t really thought about it that way, but I guess you’re right. Hopefully it’ll be the last upfront of the Trump era, too. So, I don’t know, I don’t know how much focus there will be on that. I think people are full of Donald Trump, and I feel like the upfront is a time to look within and make fun of ourselves.
DEADLINE: So, next week is a Trump-free zone for you?
In other words, he's guessed that anti-Trump jokes are a dud now and as a result, doesn't want to get into them so much, since it's less glory for him.
Kimmel, unlike many of them, apparently pays attention to the bottom line. He knows how bad these things have been for ratings and advertising dollars (emphasis mine) and how Hollywood has been deluding itself:
And he knows there's competition, both from other comics, and other mediums, such as Netflix, as he states in his interview.
What he should do with this information is admit that he was wrong and clearly declare that his industry that can't go on forever abusing and insulting half of its audience. He hasn't quite done that, but it appears it's going to do the next best thing, which is change his own behavior.
Call it a start.

Had to sit through a commencement speech at a college in the northeast yesterday.
The guy was advertised as a latino who struggled to succeed in breaking through stereotypes.
Cloaked in ‘i’m a comedian and actor and hispanic and this country is going to get over its hatred of minorties when we make white people the minority and we make spanish the first language of america so we can hate whitey all day ling’ which was bad enough, here was the theme:
Trump hates blacks and hispanics and has brainwashed his supporters into thinking that way after having colluded with the Russians to steal the election. Get out there and vote in the midterm election so we can impeach Trump, and get back to the destruction of whitey that we were enjoying before Trump took over
I had expected to hear this brainwashing inuendo-filled trash going in, having briefed myself on who was the commencement speaker (and deciding to go ahead and attend anyway) so i was prepared. I sat, just waiting. I didnt roll my eyes, I didnt respond, didnt applaud. I ignored him, as he ignored me. He wasnt speaking to me, an American patriot. He was talking ABOUT me.
The bad part of the speech was after, listening to the wealthy educated hard working successful, silly, guilt-ridden, WIMPY, Americans in my family saying that they loved the speech.
Cultural idiocy.
The speaker should have been heckled off. The hispanics in the audience would have rioted in spanish.
Well, maybe after some time these people will run out of material and audience. After a few more years of Trump’s steely-eyed focus on saving The US from destroying itself.
Successes piling up might lead to shutting these people up. The Lord knows tge wimps in my fluffy generation will not oppose these people head-on. My father would have caused a scene and had a few people to back him up.

I think many in the left-liberal elite realize that their two year tantrum over Trump has been a costly self indulgence, and that it’s only hardened the resolve of the Deplorables, and repelled centrist voters.
Watch for them to tone down the snarling #Resistance bs as the midterms draw near.

The truth is that the majority of viewers don’t tune in to listen to a comedian deliver a nonstop political rant. Unfortunately he’s not the only “comedian” to cross the line of good comedy.
If these were anti-Obama jokes he would have been vilified and fired the next day.

They aren’t just insulting the president; they are insulting anyone who voted for him or supports him. Why should we be insulted in our homes from our TVs?
