The shadow war between Israel and Iran in Syria escalated sharply on Monday after suspected Israeli strikes killed 26 Iranian and Assad regime fighters, according to monitors.
One strike tore through a military base dug into a mountain near the central city of Hama on Sunday night, causing an explosion so large it registered as a 2.6 magnitude earthquake. A second strike targeted an airbase near the northern city of Aleppo.
There was no claim of responsibility for the attack but suspicion immediately fell on Israel, which has carried out a number of strikes as it tries to prevent Iran from building up a military presence in Syria and transferring weapons to Hizbollah, the Lebanese military group.

A fella named Yoni (who I believe was in some way affiliated with the IDF, which does not mean much because in Israel almost everyone is....you’ll have to excuse me, I was about 1/3rd awake @ 4 am) on Hewitt this am said rather matter of factly that Israel & Iran will be at 1973-grade (meaning “all in”) war within 6 weeks. I acknowledge I am reporting hot air, but the way he said it was as if he was saying “yeah, I have to stop by the store this afternoon”. It was as I said, matter of fact.

That was an ammo dump and a very large one based on the video. I would guess that Israel decided to destroy the rockets intended for them in one spot vs rely on the Iron Dome.
How or why some of our fellow FReepers will have a problem with this is beyond me. Iran uses Syria to strike at Israel..... as long as they do this in my opinion Israel has a right to defend themselves, but some will be along here shortly to tell us that Israel has “no right to attach a sovereign nation.” Syria is no longer a sovereign nation - it is a puppet state used for the goals of others. If my neighbor allowed someone who wants me destroyed to stockpile mortar shells and tubes on their property intended to strike me should I simply watch them and deal with the shelling later?
Peace is braking out all over and Israel is pushing for war. If this was done by Israel, doesn’t it give justification to Iran and Syria for wanting to have strong military capability?

IIRC, Israel is still at war with Syria, technically and according to International Law and Rules of War.

The nature of the hits were precise and the intelligence was extremely accurate.
The Iranians can’t take a leak without Israel knowing about it.
Whoever hit those bases sent a message.

It wasn't the weapon that caused the earthquake. The 'earthquake' came several minutes later as the AMMO DUMP exploded.
