Puerto Rico should be a completely independent country.
Within a year, an independent Puerto Rico will look just like an independent Haiti.
And just like Haitians, they will come to the USA to live on the government tit.
Either way, statehood or independence, Puerto Ricans will STILL come to the USA looking for free stuff.
The United States should help people who live in the United States.

That’s BS. There’s a slew of other Caribbean islands that our enemies could use as bases if they had the desire to. I doubt that an independent PR would want to get on our bad side. And PR kicked our base out of Vieques just a few years ago. We need them like a hole in the head. Give them their freedom.
I was thinking more along the lines of additional Luis Gutierrezes, who in fact is Puerto Rican.

The productive class have all left Puerto Rico, what’s left behind are the losers.
That was the curse of Commonwealth status, it made it too easy for people to leave the island. It simply wasn’t sustainable in the long run.
Yes, I agree, with the exception that Puerto Ricans residing in the US who renounce Puerto Rico may retain US citizenship.
The downside: An independent Puerto Rico may ally itself with enemies of the US. We don’t need an Iranian, Red Chinese or NORK naval base that close, for example.
The only thing wrong with Puerto Rico is that it's full of Puerto Ricans.

I know several puertorriqueños here in Florida. They are all hard-working and conservative.
Their problem is the island is run by liberal democRATS.
Think Detroit, Chicago, Baltimore, Oakland, Los Angeles, New York City, etc. as islands in the Caribbean.
