Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Wednesday he doubts the accuracy of scientific research that increasingly links state-legal medical marijuana to reductions in opioid use and overdose deaths.

"I think one study that suggested there’s some sort of inverse relationship between increased marijuana use and reducing of deaths, I did see that," Sessions said during a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing.

"I’ve asked my staff to take a look at it because science is very important, and I don't believe that will be sustained in the long run," he added, citing opposition to pot legalization by medical groups.

The prison industry also opposes any type of marijuana declassification/decriminalization. Go figure.

Maybe yes and maybe no.

Why don’t you focus on some of the bigger fish you are supposed to be frying, Jeff?

It’s the only thing AG Rosenstein will allow his deputy to work on.

I must have missed all those “ban that pot” rallies.

Jeff is a national disgrace. He needs to go back to making EL Fudge.

Sessions is so willfully blind when it comes to cannabis, IMO.

Also, it wouldn’t surprise me if he can recite the opening rant to “Reefer Madness”.

I don't believe that will be sustained in the long run

Another ideologue who assumes reality will sooner or later conform itself to his preconceptions.

Say, you don't think he's been posting to FR under a couple dozen aliases ... ?

Even the Governor of Colorado has admitted that he may back repeal of Colorado’s law permitting marijuana.

Based on early indications of increased crimes directly related to pot use.

My guess is Sessions is a blanking coward and lives closer to the communists Democrats.

The mellow marijuana of the 60s is a loooong way from the mega-powerful marijuana produced today.

He was interviewed a week or two ago and it appeared in the local news.

I am going by memory.

“Even the Governor of Colorado has admitted that he may back repeal of Colorado’s law permitting marijuana.”

I believe he offered an opinion vs “admitting” anything.

“Based on early indications of increased crimes directly related to pot use.”

What he actually said was: “Trust me, if the data was coming back and we saw spikes in violent crime, we saw spikes in overall crime, there would be a lot of people looking for that bottle and figuring out how we get the genie back in,” he said. “It doesn’t seem likely to me, but I’m not ruling it out.”
