The Case for Climate Reparations
The Sierra Club ^ | April 23, 2018 | by Jason Mark

... The mounting price tag of extreme weather events and the prospect of greater destruction to come have brought into focus a question that has been lurking at the edges of climate change conversations: Who should pay the costs of the death and destruction caused by human-driven global warming?

The debate over climate accountability is not new.

The Bali Action Plan established the idea - at least in theory - that the rich countries that have built their wealth by burning fossil fuels should help the poorer nations that are suffering disproportionate harms from a distorted atmosphere.

"Climate change reparations" is the shorthand for this claim—reparations meaning, basically, "a rectification of past and ongoing harms." A plainer word would be justice. But justice is elusive, difficult to calculate, and often impossible to enforce. The notion of climate reparations, also referred to as "climate restitution," has proved radioactive within international climate change talks, as richer nations resist acknowledging the responsibilities they may hold.

The mounting price tag of extreme weather events and the prospect of greater destruction to come have brought into focus a question that has been lurking at the edges of climate change conversations.

The demand for climate change reparations—that is to say, some redress for climate change's recent past, present, and likely future damages—is the base minimum required for any accounting of a crime as insidious as the profit-driven alteration of Earth's atmosphere.

The urgency of this attempt cannot be overstated. This effort to apportion responsibility is in a race against time and the implacable physics of Earth's vast systems. The longer the Carbon Barons are able to delay justice, the sooner a worse judgment will come for all of us, the innocent as well as the guilty.

Clearly, China and India owe me money. They are the big polluters and they should pay up.

What if they can be proved wrong at the same or better degree of mathematical confidence that they adhere to?

They would be subject to counter suit.

I’d like reparations from the anti-science hucksters in the sierra club who constantly pi** me off with their Marxist drivel they attempt to push off as science-based fact. These integrity-free morons need to be held accountable for their fraud .

When Sierra Club officials and members no longer fly and drive and no longer use electricity, they can lecture us on climate responsibility, but not until then.

I suspect that Jason Mark and the Sierra Club want to be first in line to be responsible for counting and allocating vast sums of U.S. Taxpayer funds for these "reparations".

Scum, everyone of them.

Exactly. Here is my plan for Sierra Club “reparations:”

1. All Sierra Club board members liquidate all personal assets and send them to these third world reparations recipients.

2. All Sierra Club donations go toward these same recipients, none go to their armies of very well paid lawyers and lobbyists.

We used to institutionalize people like this for their own safety.

I miss those days.

You’ll be surprised to learn that his answer is to sue the oil companies into bankruptcy.

Oh no no no, it’s the same scheme as before. The world can’t have a world government until it can levy a tax (for practical purposes, that’s the effective definition of a government) and as the point is to harm free nations, it’ll be substantially the same tax they tried to shove through with the Paris thing.

********************

A lot of the damage from "extreme weather events" is simply due to increasing development and the growth of larger population areas. There was violent weather activity in the past but it was not as impactful because they often occurred in undeveloped areas that were not as densly populated as they are today.

Years ago, you could walk out of your house and shoot a gun in nearly any direction and not hit another home. Can't do that today because of spreading city boundaries, expanding surburband development, and communities that keep popping up on what used to be rural areas. The more people there are, the greater the potential damage from "extreme weather events".

Speaking of Climate Reparations dear Sierra Club, when are you going to cough up for destroying 40% of the High Sierra pines when you blocked cutting out the bug infestation in Touloumne County by Lawfare?

I figure you owe about one Trillion dollars in lumber and wildlife losses.
