The coffee chain's anti-bias training is a potentially positive step. But white people need get real about the extent of racism in America.
Can black folks do anything without scrutiny?
The arrest of two black men sitting quietly in a Philadelphia Starbucks has set off a national discussion about whether there are any places or activities where race doesn’t color the experience. Even something as innocuous and common as waiting at Starbucks for a friend looks different when viewed through the lens of America’s ongoing race problem.
And so well-meaning outrage aside, it’s time that white people in America get real about the way racism — including their own — reveals itself in social situations, usually off-camera.
Looking beyond Starbucks, the mistreatment and subsequent denials of our reality aren't simply frustrating. They hurt the black community in diverse and measurable ways, both psychologically and physically.
For black women in America, an inescapable atmosphere of societal and systemic racism can create a kind of toxic physiological stress, resulting in conditions — including hypertension and pre-eclampsia — that lead directly to higher rates of infant and maternal death.”
The lived experience of millions of our citizens is actually killing black folks. But racism doesn’t require a white hood and a burning cross to thrive. It doesn’t even require overzealous police officers or a problematic coffee shop manager. All racism requires is people who refuse to believe that it’s real and therefore do nothing to stop it.

Sure, when blacks get real about the fact that whites find it unremarkable that murderers and rapists on the news are black men. I’d rather be the people getting booted for loitering than those that are raped and/or killed...
I’ve got the crime statistics ready for whenever they want to have a real conversation about “racism”.

This merely another expression of the black citizen as a ‘victim’ syndrome.
NBC is a major enabler for bad race relations. And they are the racists. If the people were white, everyone would know that they are loitering, taking space away from paying customers, and not moving along when asked to either buy something or leave the premises...by both the manager and later the Police! So, instead of the story being about people disrespecting a business and the Police, we have another manufactured race outrage story. This reminds me of the Treyvon Martin or Brown stories where black people doing terrible things are given a free pass and painted as innocent victims! The racism of low expectations is alive and doing very well at NBC.

After reading this article and how “toxic” the majority of Americans are just by existing, I am convinced that the only way to save the African-Americans is an absolute “separate, but equal” system that gives them a apportioned area as determined by actual census figures so they can live without fear of white people anymore. /sarc
