Armitage admits leaking Plame's identity (for those in the media that conveniently don't remember)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage acknowledged Thursday that he was the source who first revealed the identity of CIA officer Valerie Plame to syndicated columnist Robert Novak back in 2003, touching off a federal investigation. Armitage told the CBS Evening News that he did so inadvertently.

"I feel terrible," Armitage said. "Every day, I think, I let down the president. I let down the secretary of state. I let down my department, my family, and I also let down Mr. and Mrs. Wilson."

In a column published on July 14, 2003, Novak, citing two senior administration officials, noted that Plame was a CIA operative. The column was primarily about Plame's husband, Joe Wilson, a former career diplomat and critic of the intelligence underlying the invasion of Iraq.

Novak has never revealed the original source of the information about Plame. However, he has confirmed that President Bush's chief political strategist, Karl Rove, confirmed the information and was the second source cited in the column.

Novak has said he would not reveal the identity of the original source unless the source came forward. However, he said Fitzgerald learned who the source was independently.

Last month, sources told CNN that Armitage had revealed Plame's role at the CIA in a casual conversation with Novak.

Colin Powell, Armitage’s boss, knew for THREE YEARS that Armitage was the leaker, and kept his mouth shut, while Libby and Rove almost went to prison.

My understanding at the time was that Plame’s own husband revealed her identity. It’s not worth my time here to dig up old links, but that was my impression at the time. Scooter was simply the “face saving offering” to finish it and move on.

She had no cover. It was not illegal to reveal her name. When Robert Novak called the CIA to ask about her they gave him the information over the phone.

She worked at a desk. She continued to do the same job for two years afterwards. The only reason she quit is she got a big book deal. When it was learned that Karl Rove would not be “frog marched off to jail” the deal fell apart.

Nobody was ever charged with outing her because it was not a crime. Nothing but a dog and pony show just liuke the current Russia Russia Russia thing.

Trump won’t roll over and play nice like W-wuss did.

Libby spent almost three years in prison and that worm, Armitage, didn’t speak up. He is an embarrassment to Americans.

Didn’t Freepers at the time conclude that Plame outed herself?

Libby went to prison because his memory was different than Tim Russert and he ended up in a circus trial. One of the jurors was Russerts neighbor, frequent barbeque guest and he was writing a book about this at the time.

WHO EVER CARED WHO ‘LEAKED’ PLAME’S NAME??? SHE WASN’T AN OPERATIVE AT THE TIME!!! Oh wait, the Dems could trump up an ‘evil Republicans’ narrative, get a special prosecutor, spend BOATLOADS of taxpayer monies (the MOST important aspect of the whole mess), and get one scalp on MINOR charges,,,,,,,typical Deep State and Uniparty behavior.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Plame affair

The Plame affair (also known as the CIA leak scandal and Plamegate) was a political scandal that revolved around journalist Robert Novak’s public identification of Valerie Plame as a covert Central Intelligence Agency officer in 2003.[1][2][3]

In 2002, Plame wrote a memo to her superiors in which she expressed hesitation in recommending her husband, former diplomat Joseph C. Wilson, to the CIA for a mission to Niger to investigate claims that Iraq had arranged to purchase and import uranium from the country, but stated that he “may be in a position to assist”.[4] After President George W. Bush stated that “Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa” during the run-up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq, Wilson published a July 2003 op-ed in The New York Times stating his doubts during the mission that any such transaction with Iraq had taken place.[5]

A week after Wilson’s op-ed was published, Novak published a column which mentioned claims from “two senior administration officials” that Plame had been the one to suggest sending her husband. Novak had learned of Plame’s employment, which was classified information, from State Department official Richard Armitage.[2] David Corn and others suggested that Armitage and other officials had leaked the information as political retribution for Wilson’s article.

The scandal led to a criminal investigation; no one was charged for the leak itself. Scooter Libby was convicted of lying to investigators. Libby was pardoned by President Donald Trump in 2018 years after having his prison sentence commuted by President George W. Bush.

I didn’t bother to read the article, but has he apologized to Libby and offered compensation?

At the time, supposedly intelligent conservatives were repeating the lie that Libby had outed an undercover spy. Plame was merely a CIA bureaucrat trying to undermine Bush.

Think Ms. Palme. Plenty of sexy poses, even on magazine covers. She was not THAT hot but good looking enough. Puff up the job description to ‘operative’. Add exposure and call it a life threatening event. Behave like a damsel in distress victim. Works every time.

My recollection is that she also put her occupation down as CIA something-or-other on a sign-in sheet at her kids' school or somewhere, so her working for the CIA was not a secret.

What do sources which are not justifiably considered laughingstocks say?

Wikipedia is useful for finding out who wrote some song, or what the plot of a forgotten movie was. It’s a joke otherwise.

STROLL DOWN MEMORY LANE. CIRCA 2017--Valerie Plame: Give me $1 billion and I’ll put an end to Trump’s Twitter account
hotair.com ^ | 8/23/2017 | John Sexto / FR Posted by rktman

Remember Valerie Plame Wilson? She’s the former CIA agent who got outed by Richard Armitage in the lead up to the Iraq war. She seems to be looking for a return to the media spotlight with her latest scheme to silence President Trump on Twitter. Her plan is to raise $1 billion dollars to buy a controlling share of the social media platform and then kick Trump off. Her GoFundMe page, which has so far raised about $3,000, says this is necessary to prevent nuclear war with North Korea:(Excerpt) Read more at hotair.com ...

=========================================

AND THIS---Here's how Valerie and her husband tapped into a bundle of tax dollars w/ help from their pal, Hillary.

BACKSTORY Sid Blumenthal was (is) the conniving Clintons' bagman---a $325,000 employee of the Clinton Foundation, hired to (gag) promote Clinton's presidential legacy. On the side, Sid promoted dubious foreign deals and schemes in which he had a financial interest many of them predicated on the fall of Libya.

Blumenthal was ambidextrous---emailing Libya foreign policy messages w/ one hand....his other hand firmly in the State Dept cookie jar.

In one (leaked) confidential e-mail to Clinton, Blumenthal was clearly colluding w/ onetime Amb Joe Wilson (Valerie's husband) to score a bundle of tax dollars.

GAME ON Amb Wilson pumped himself as a 'director' of Symbion Power---an outfit seeking millions of dollars in contracts from an obscure government agency chaired by Hillary....the Millennium Challenge Corp (MCC)....a notorious slush fund.

In September 2010, Hillary ordered MCC to award Symbion $47 million tax dollars for (cough) 'power projects in Tanzania.'

......how much of the $47 million tax dollars got to Tanzania after the players divvied it up among Blumenthal, Wilson, the Clintons, Obama?.........

===========================================

FREEPER ACTION PROJECT--DO THIS NOW: demand the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) books be opened. We demand to know the financial details and the scope and dimension of individuals connected to these outrageous State Dept giveaways.........govt parasites like Blumenthal, Plame and her husband pocketing zillions at taxayers' expense.

CONTACT CONGRESS HERE------http://www.contactingthecongress.org/

============================================

Milliam Challenege is also the govt agency Obama took 100 million tax dollars to give to Michelle to give to Morocco "to teach Muslim girls."

“My recollection is that she also put her occupation down as CIA something-or-other on a sign-in sheet at her kids’ school or somewhere, so her working for the CIA was not a secret.”

Plame’s connection (spouse) to Joe Wilson was revealed in his Who’s Who in America biographical entry published well before Novak’s column appeared. Plus, CIA spokesman Bill Harlowe confirmed to Novak that she had recommended her husband for the Niger trip. Harlowe also told Novak that Plame had been posted overseas to a US embassy in the past and she was now an analyst. She was not, at least at that time, a “covert operative” and her employment at the CIA was not a classified secret.
