Tears..., not on your life! I remember a helluva lot of tea and peanut butter sandwiches with a splurge (once or twice a week) at an all-youcan-eat buffet in college! If you were dating a local girl you might join a family dinner once a week... Ahhh, to be 40 pounds lighter today!

Umm, apparently he didn’t have enough money to purchase a meal ticket. Meals aren’t included in tuition.

on Sunday, for a gourmet meal, we would have macaroni and cheese with a can of tuna mixed in. You got that right being a gourmet meal! Mac 'n Cheese and Spam was a treat for me!

In addition to working, I collected cans and bottles for the nickel deposit so I had money to buy food.

This answer to this terrible crisis is, of course, for the government to double their loan loads.

When I became an E4 in the Navy, one of the first things I did was ditch my mess hall pass and take money instead to buy my own food.
I had to learn. I went weeks at a time eating Wonder bread with margarine from a tub, and drinking Lipton powdered iced tea.
LOL, I didn’t complain. It was my responsibility and choice.

My husband got through school in the UK by eating dog food quality ground beef.
He lived.

I like fried spam... and also ‘spam salad’ ground up spam with Mayo and a dab of mustard, pickle relish and maybe some celery.
And I still love macaroni and cheese, and occasionally mix in some tuna for old times sake.

My college diet:
Breakfast: white bread and tea.
Lunch: Can of soup and crackers.
Dinner: potatoes, spaghetti or rice. Sometimes a can of veggies. Coffee.
Literally 1/3 of the food budget went to feeding my two cats and providing them with ltter.
