Another California city has taken a stand against the states sanctuary city laws after a vote Monday night prompted Huntington Beach to file its own lawsuit over the issue.
Huntington Beach City Council voted 6-1 to file a lawsuit against the state of California over a law signed by Gov. Jerry Brown that took effect January 1. The law prohibits state and local police agencies from notifying federal authorities when illegal immigrants facing deportation are released.
Mayor Mike Posey and Councilman Erik Peterson called the law constitutional overreach, The Orange County Register reported.
Posey said his could become the first city in California to sue the state itself.

The Federal Government does not even have to sue. All they have to do is start arresting State officials under existing law in Section 8 of the immigration code. In some cases Section 8 even allows the death penalty.
First we’d have to have an AG
I hope and pray that the worm is turning in this country.
Moonbeam and his dip-shite AG should be arrested and immediately tranfered to GITMO as enemy combatants.
Jim (The Turtles) Tucker will be HAPPY TOGETHER with other
Huntington Beach natives when he finds out his home
town is mooning Moonbeam!
Agreed, this shows that there are still some decent people in So. California.
Good for Huntington Beach, much egg on Moonbeam and Becerra’s faces.”
I am glad about this. I have a college friend who owns a small business in Huntington Beach.
If I ever visit Cali Huntington Beach.
If I ever go to Cali i will visit Huntington Beach.
Great song.
“Moonbeam and his dip-shite AG should be arrested and immediately tranfered to GITMO as enemy combatants.”
The reason GITMO exists is because if enemy combatants were brought to the United States then, since there is no declared war, the government would be forced to try them as criminals. Criminal law would apply. For example, were they read their Miranda rights? Were they forced to answer questions the answers to which could incriminate them? Did they have legal representation? Because of the law the government would not only lose, but would most likely have to pay restitution, which, doubtless would be in the millions of dollars.
A US citizen is covered by these laws regardless of where or when he is taken into custody. Moving a US citizen off shore would not change that.
In high school I spent a lot of time in the summer at Huntington Beach and Newport Beach, good times.
It’s really built up now as compared to then but I imagine it’s still nice.
Support Free Republic, Folks!
So far it’s Los Alamitos, Hesperia, Huntington Beach and Murietta?
And, Tuck is a great guy, a good conservative for being
a 60s rock n’ roller.
One less city in California that will be under federal control in the near future.
Looks like momentum is starting to build against California’s illegal ‘sanctuary state’ law.
That’s very encouraging, and I hope to see more cities and counties joining the push-back effort.
Yes, it’s a good sign and if more cities/counties would join in it’d send a message to Sacramento.
I can’t imagine the DOJ lawsuit losing but stranger things have happened, it may go to SCOTUS.
