KGB Deception Is No Myth
American Spectator ^ | March 29, 2018 | Diana West

Posted on 03/29/2018 8:10:46 PM PDT by Twotone

On March 18, 2018, the Washington Post Outlook section categorized KGB influence operations and my book, American Betrayal, both as “myth.” In response, I sent in the following essay, which Outlook has turned down.

I am the author of that unnamed “book written in 2013” whose research and argumentation, anchored in nearly 1,000 endnotes, were labeled a “myth” by Mark Kramer (“Five Myths about Espionage,” Outlook, March 18, 2018).

Here’s how Kramer made his case in “Myth No. 5”:

A surprisingly common misconception about spies is that they set out to change policy in the countries where they operate. A book published in 2013, for example, alleged that Stalin’s spies in the 1940s had effectively “occupied” the United States and guided the policies of the Roosevelt administration.

Since Kramer forgot to mention it, the title of that “book published in 2013” is: American Betrayal: The Secret Assault on Our Nation’s Character (St. Martin’s Press). On page 68, I set out to describe the impact of the secret honeycombing of the halls of power and influence in New Deal/wartime Washington, D.C. by an intelligence army of covert agents and communists under Kremlin discipline — more than 500 have now been identified — and came up with “for all intents and purposes occupied.”

A goodly number of these secret agents, of whom Alger Hiss is only the most famous, reached senior policy-making positions in the FDR administration.

The Left still makes excuses for Alger Hiss.

The Left has also been engaging in “Red baiting” by trying to tie ANYONE who defends Donald Trump as being a supporter of Putin, Communists, KGB, and “Russia” yet they continue to deny 70+ years of Soviet influence and conspiracy in the West.

From the same rag that, not 5 days previously, was arguing Russian Spies were trying to swing an election...

But they no longer want to pursue that story.

The KGB and leftists worldwide including the democrat party of the USA operate on deception and manipulation. That is what trial lawyers are trained to do.

All my relatives who lived through FDR’s administration swore until their dying that FDR was a commie. Seems they were right.

To Freeper readers> This is an excellent article by Wiest and should be read several times in order to absorb all the points she and those she quoted, made about Soviet intelligence operations.

I don’t know which Mark Kramer this is, but he’s wrong.

How do I, just a Freeper, know that he is wrong? Well, to begin with, I met and talked to Whitaker Chambers shortly before he died. His book and congressional testimonies have stood the test of time, esp. with the revelations of the “VENONA PAPERS”, John Barron’s book “Operation Solo”, and the Mitrohkin Papers, among others by defectors from the KGB/GRU ranks.

Also, Stan Evans was my first publisher of a study I did on internal security matters and leftist front operations. Herb Romerstein, Stan’s buddy, was one of my mentors as was the famous FBI undercover agent Herbert “I Led Three Lives” Philbrick.

Former Marxists I have known include the late Phil Luce (Maoist, PLM), David Horowitz (Rampants Mag., now of the very insightful “www.DiscoverTheNetwork.org” and “Frontpagemagazine”, and Ron Radosh, a leftist who returned to a more honest liberal/left position after seeing the lies and deceptions of the Marxist left he was raised in (his book was roughly entitled “Old Left, New Left”.

If you are interested in seeing an FBI report on Soviet attempts to “contact or influence” U.S. congressmen, including Sen. Ted Kennedy, William Fulbright, etc., go to the wiki-like site “www.keywiki.org”. Search under the name “Edward Kennedy” and you will see a “KGB” ops list of those they were trying to establish contacts with up to 1970.

If you remember Ted Kennedy’s 1983 offer to the Kremlin to help them undermine Pres. Reagan’s military buildup (to counter the 1970’s Soviet massive military program), then you can surmise that they “got” to him. I have no doubt that they did and if you read some of his congressional speeches and his Sen. Jud. Comm, Immigration” reports on Vietnam, you can see communist propaganda throughout them (having been in reporter in both S. Vietnam and Cambodia, I can spot “facts” and “claims” that look like they came straight out of Hanoi, though they are clothed in “congressionalese bullshit”).

There are other documents in the National Archives that reveal decades long Soviet intelligence, espionage, and penetration operations against the US government and its agencies, up to and including Congress.

In fact, the famous “Appendix IX” volumes were ordered destroyed by Congress because they included too many names of Senators and Representatives who were either member of the Communist Party USA or their fronts”.

FYI: “Investigation of Un-American Propaganda Activities in the United States - Special Committee on Un-American Activities, House of Representatives, 87th Congress, 2nd Session, on H. Res. 282 -LONG TITLE - then, Committee Print, Appendix IX -(several Parts and Bound Index), “Communist Front Organizations with Special Reference to the National Citizens Political Action Committee”, 1944.

The good news is that Appendix IX is available on the internet though I don’t know which site is housing them. You’ll have to search for it but they are well worth looking at.

In this “Kramer versus Wiest” debate, Kramer is the loser out of sheer ignorance. I wonder why, and I wonder if he is teaching his coverup views to students”.

Well I for one am glad that OUR intel agencies are straight shooters, and are not deceptive or dishonest.

I read that Comey copped down a cherry tree when he was little. When his dad asked who did it, he said “Father, I cannot tell a lie...it was the Russians”.

Of course, this idiot Kramer is teaching this nonsense to his students. No one has documented Soviet “active measures” better than Diana West. For this, she has been slandered unmercifully. When apparently well-respected experts maintain a position that is obviously false there is a serious problem. Kramer may be the director of Cold War Studies at Harvard but he is not of the stature of Harvey Klehr or John Hayes who hold similar views. He is more like Professor Jeffrey K. Olick of the University of Virginia who teaches his students and the readers of his book, In the House of the Hangman, that “Harry Dexter White, was accused in 1948 by Joseph McCarthy’s House Un-American Affairs Committee [HUAC] of being a Soviet agent.” This factoid was repeated on the air by “historian” Bill O’Reilly. Apparently many people do not know that Senators do not run House committees. The world we live in today was largely shaped by Soviet agents of influence in the Roosevelt administration. The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund were founded by Soviet agent of influence Harry Dexter White. He was also the author of the Morgenthau Plan and played a significant role in the creation of the UN. White recruited hundreds of federal employees. Most of the Communists were removed but many of the progressives remained to shape the federal bureaucracy to this day. The Post has used its most effective defense of their position. They refused to print the response of the person they attacked.

It’s amazing how Democrats can simultaneously maintain that KGB influence was a myth while maintaining that Trump is Putin’s puppet.

If the real extent of the Democrat Party’s members (i.e. Congressmen and women) collusion with the Soviets via being members of the CPUSA and its many front operations, if not outright agents like Rep. Eamuel Dickstein was (1930s bought and paid for)and dupes were known to the public, there would be mass treason trials that would last for years.

See: “The Haunted Wood - Soviet Espionage in America - The Stalin Era”, Allen Weinstein & Alexander Vassliev, Modern Library softback, 1999, Chapter 7: “Crook”: A Soviet Agent in Congress”.

One day the true story about Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich) and George Crockett Jr. (D-Mich), Bella Abzug (D-NY) and Ron Dellums (D-Ca - Oakland), as well as “The Dirty Dozen or Two Dozen” traitors will be fully told.

In a sane world, it would lead to the complete collapse and destruction of the Democrat Party because of its deliberate allowance of communists in it, knowing full well who they were and how they were working for Moscow, Havana, and Hanoi.

See my Freep Page: Whitaker Chambers, one of my heroes.

As is Joseph McCarthy.

Hiss? Hell, people still believed the Rosenbergs were innocent, so Hiss rode that wave of gullibility his whole life.

Screw Hiss. He lived a lie his whole adult life until the day he died. How pathetic is that.

I had an interesting series of communications with Whitaker Chamber’s grandson over copyright of his “Letter to My Children” which I had on my personal website (and here on FR)

He was quite amiable and polite, and asked me to remove it, which I did. But it kept regenerating on my website for some reason. He understood I was having an issue of technical ineptness...:

Amazing, isn’t it? One of the finest books I have ever read on the subject is “Blacklisted by History: The Untold Story of Senator Joe McCarthy and His Fight Against America’s Enemies” by M. Stanton Evans.

I was so impressed with his book I wanted to write him and compliment him, but he passed away before I could do so.

I must say, that book changed my view of Harry Truman quite significantly. I had always held him in high esteem, but after reading that, I realized that to him, the Democratic Party was far, FAR more important to him than The United States of America and its national security.

Lost a lot of respect.
