Spain needs to get Trump to return Puerto Rico to help compensate for the loss of Catalonia.

Very quiet here in Girona north of Barcelona, but things are tough down there. Big protests.

Work's done, heading back to the US tomorrow.

Those Catalonian politicians who support independence from Spain are no freedom fighters. They are on average even more socialist than their Spanish counterparts. They want to remain in the EU. They just don’t like Spain. Remember that during the Spanish Civil War Catalonia was a bastion of the Left. Not much has changed since then.

That seems like a very good deal all the way around. Catalonia becomes independent. Spain gets back a piece of its old overseas empire.

And Puerto Rico wins too. The US will not bail out Puerto Rico. But if your suggestion were followed, Puerto Rico would be a member of the EU. And the EU would probably bail them out, just like they did with Greece.

I’m sending an email to Trump later on today: Appoint Paladin2 Secretary of State.

The Catalan independence politicians are foolish IMO.
They will never get independence without widespread armed rebellion. They must be willing to fight and die to free themselves from Spain.

Fighting and dying for independence would be even more foolish because the pro-independence politicians want Catalonia to remain part of the EU. They are no less socialist than their Spanish counterparts.

I don’t argue Left vs. Right so much as pro-EU big central government versus decentralized government anti-EU.

I’m more capitalist than socialist but not crony capitalist fake Left like Canada’s Liberals or Tony Blair’s brand of Labor Party that Corbyn trounced in recent leadership contests.

There’s a lot of lefties in Catalonia but Catalonia is the wealthy part of Spain like northern Italy bailing out other parts and being crushed by the EU regulations etc. etc.

The League of Northern Italy is more to the Right but their fight is the same as the Catalan Left.

The EU supports the Spanish regime in crushing the Catalans, that’s for sure, as Nigel Farage has noted repeatedly.

Perhaps the Catalans who like the EU are undergoing a transformation.

But the pro-independence Catalonian politicians are mostly pro-EU (similar to the Scottish National Party). Those of them who are anti-EU are left-wing extremists (i.e. communists or near-communists).

Try declaring your independence and do things like stop paying taxes.

Let us know how the works out for you.
