There are certainly antiboycott laws. Colorado CRS 8-2-112 specifically prohibits them.

It is Citi’s right to do business with whomever they choose, just as it is ours. In no way should the government be involved with telling them, or us, who we can or can’t do business with.

If you don’t like it, don’t do business with them.

How is it illegal to restrict debit card purchases? Is there a law against it?

Looks it is the banks business. The bank can and has made it their business.

So you think it’s fine I can control how you spend your money to buy lawful goods?

What if a debit card provider says you can’t buy gas because that contributes to global warming and they can no longer sit back and be passive in the face of the destruction of Mother Earth?!

The BASIS of a free society is the ability to have private commerce and contract between individuals - government has the authority to regulate that - private corporations do NOT. A debit card is YOUR money not the banks.

yes, so they think anyway

Americans are not stupid. many Americans realize (and have realized for at least the last 9 years or so) that USA is in tremendous danger .. from dictatorial governmental officials, from fascist corporate bosses, and of course from the increasing infiltration, immigration of dangerous Muslims into every American state, thousands of cities and towns.

there’s little love lost in America for the Big 4 banks (including Citi). They can indeed dictate and be very unfair, but there are political and legal (and business) responses available to Americans to deal with them, too..

why Citi;s management would want to enter politics in this additional new way...involve the bank in controversial matters... is beyond me. They apparently don’t care how much business the bank loses...I think they should focus on their jobs and try to improve the bank’s market share and profitability

Citigroup also said it's prepared to lose business if its clients don't comply...

Sweet. Hope it withers on the vine.

“It is still unlawful discrimination on the count of age.”

On that part, and that part you alone might have a point. But if CITI were to revert to no gun sales at all, it would get them untangled from that legal point, as they would not be in any case singling out anyone on age.

Remember. It is settled law that a baker has to bake the cake.

Someone will decide to float the test case.

And then we’re back to the debit vs credit discussion - if they’re blocking a debit card I claim it’s unlawful because that’s restricting your right to use YOUR money to perform a lawful transaction.

Credit falls under what Citi would offer a loan for and they’re within their rights to restrict THAT (because it’s their money)

Not in Virginia, they can't - legally that is:

From the code of Virginia

§ 6.2-501. Prohibited discrimination.

A. It shall be unlawful for any creditor to discriminate against any applicant, with respect to any aspect of a credit transaction:

1. On the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex or marital status, or age, provided the applicant has the capacity to contract; or...

§ 6.2-505. Remedies for violation.

A. Any creditor who fails to comply with any requirement imposed under this chapter shall be liable to the aggrieved applicant in an amount equal to the sum of any actual damages sustained by such applicant.

B. Any creditor, other than the federal or state government or any political subdivision or agency of such government, who fails to comply with any requirement imposed under this chapter shall be liable to the aggrieved applicant for punitive damages in an amount not greater than $10,000, as determined by the court, in addition to any actual damages provided in subsection A.

Anyone ready to take up the suit? 10K to ya.

Cmon - were calling Facebook to congress for investigations because they sold the data they were collecting within 24 hours!

Why can’t our GOP controlled legislature call Citigroup to congress to investigate political shenanigans and an attempt to restrict basic constitutional rights?!

Heads need to roll! Don’t take this lying down and just cut your cards.

Citigroup is putting new restrictions on how and when its corporate clients can sell guns.

If they think they can stop gun sales and win they may want to remember what the guy in Austin used.
The price of jumping on the band wagon for business reasons has a very high price to pay.

Operation Chokepoint by other means. All the Prog corporate virtue-signalers now have the means to implement Prog policy through their own corporate monopolies.

You cannot control how I spend my money. And the bank cannot control how you spend yours. If you wish to enter into a contract with CITI that enables you to have a debit card which comes with restrictions on guns then that is your problem. The bank has no control over how you spend your money unles you give it to them.

“The BASIS of a free society is the ability to have private commerce and contract between individuals - government has the authority to regulate that - private corporations do NOT. A debit card is YOUR money not the banks.”

That paragraph is idiotic. Freedom means the government does NOT regulate something. When the government regulates something that is the opposite of freedom.

A private corporation can FREELY into a contract, individuals can FREELY enter into a contract and they can agree to whatever they wish. The government has no right to decide on what they agree to. When you open a bank account you make an agreement with the bank. If you find the agreement onerous then do not agree to it. That’s freedom.

Up until about five minutes ago I had a combination Citi-Bank Visa and Costco Membership Card. I cancelled my account with Citi-Bank and will have to have Costco prepare a new membership card for me on my next visit.

I wonder where Citi-Bank got the idea that they could legislate the age at which one may purchase a firearm in the United States, a power that ought to be reserved to Congress. I wonder what studies they have to justify their position and whether they can justify disarming a 20-year-old single mother who needs a firearm to protect her family?
